5 Tips To A Better Family Ski/Snowboarding Vacation

Family ski vacations can be great fun. The key to planning a successful trip is to plan ahead.

Tip 1: Choose the Right Location

The planning should start with the choosing of the right location. A great choice is Vail, Colorado. It is well known for its teaching areas for children, its family fun Adventure Ridge, bowling alleys, state of the art Movie Theater, and special children’s camps. Vail has nine special ski areas made just for children.

Tip 2: Choose the Right Resort

Choose a resort that is child friendly with lots of activities for children besides skiing and snowboarding. One great resort in Vail, Colorado is the Vail Cascade Resort. This resort offers its own chairlift at the resort so getting to the slopes is easy. They also offer babysitting services so your little ones, as young as 8 weeks, can be well taken care of while you experience more advanced skiing. Children will also enjoy the great Kid Venture activities including jewelry making, mom and daughter massages, marshmallow roasting, and kid’s boot camp. The resort can help you find great skiing lessons for the children.

Tip 3: Stay On Schedule

Keep the schedule for the children as normal as possible. If your children are still young enough that they take naps at home, then plan for nap time during the day. A great way to do this is to stay in ski-in, ski-out lodging. Then you can ski back to the room for their naps. As adults we may be able to go all day without food, not so with children. Make sure and prepare snacks that can be carried in a backpack on your skiing trip. This will not only save you money, but will allow the kids to eat when they are hungry.

Tip 4: Prepare Your Own Meals

When choosing a room at the resort, look for one where you can prepare your own meals. Cranky kids at a restaurant are no fun for anyone. So try to stay where you can prepare your own meals. Then you can feed them their favorite foods and put them to bed early. Then, if you desire, you can hire a babysitter and enjoy the rest of your night. It is a great time to reconnect with your significant other. Many resorts, including Snowmass Village, will furnish babysitters that they have investigated.

Tip 5: Get to the Airport Early

If you will be flying to your skiing location, including Vail, Colorado, gets to the airport early. This way you will have a plenty of time to explore the airport before you get on the plane. Send your equipment ahead of time with a major carrier, just as UPS, so that all you have to worry about is your carry-on baggage. Book a seat in the back of the airplane, this way you will get on the plane first and get the best opportunity to stow your carry-on bags. Another advantage of being in the back of the plane is that you will be close to the restroom.

Finally, relax and allow things to happen naturally. After all, you are on vacation.
