2013 Summer Fashion 101~!!

Summer fashion is upon us, and whether you keep up with the latest fashion trends on the runway or simply pick your favorites from the new collections at the mall, summer always seems to beckon for a new wardrobe. Summer tends to bring out the bold colors, graphics and designs in fashion, but many of us prefer our wardrobe toned down a little bit from what's shown on the runway. For all those fashionistas out there looking for some new ready to wear, here's a look at the trends for this summer and how to adjust them to your personal taste.

1. Get Graphic
The runway saw some bold graphic designs this summer. From prints inspired by stamps and bank notes to symmetrical swirls, the prints were speaking for themselves. To wear this look select a print you love and purchase it in a simple silhouette, such as a knee-length, form-fitting dress. Skip adding accessories as this will make the look too busy, and pull your hair back in your favorite pony tail.

2. Go Iridescent
Iridescent fabrics are bright, bold and can clash easily if worn with the wrong thing. If you would like to experiment with this fabric, start with a simple skirt paired with a neutral top. If you get brave, head to a party with a bold, solid-colored top. If you like stripes or color blocking, try a basic dress with one of the colors made with iridescent fabric.

3. Pencil Skirt
Pencil Skirts are big this season and with such a large variety in color, fabrics and texture, it doesn't have to be just for the office. Try a feminine, flirty pastel color with a lace overlay or a bold solid color combined with a complimentary top. Many dresses have also come out with the pencil skirt silhouette. Throw on your favorite pair of heels and some sunglasses and you will be ready for any occasion.

4. Go Neon
A nod to the colors of summer, neon pinks and yellows are hitting the store. Neons can be softened and balanced with sheer tops and neutral colors. Pair a neon yellow skirt with a flowy white top, or throw on a bold blazer with your trusty black skirt. There's no need for accessories with this look as the neon can stand on its own.

5. Wear White
Summer is the time to wear white, and the runway gave plenty of inspiration for this season. Try pairing some white jeans with a black belt and a sheer white top with a print underneath. The outfit will follow the trend without being boring or glaringly bright like a typical all-white ensemble. Of course a short white dress paired with some white booties or heels could be just as fabulous as well with or without accessories to add a pop of color.

6. Flowers
Flowers are back with a decidedly 60's feel. To wear this look, look for a flower print that are more like a cutout or clip art than an actual flower. Make sure the dress is knee-length or shorter and the colors aren't too overbearing. A white flower with a colored center would go nicely on a short dress with flats or heels.

Is Vintage Hipster?

Is there a difference between vintage lovers and hipsters? When did dressing in vintage styles become popular again? What makes the difference between a true hipster and someone who simply loves vintage fashion? The subject is confusing and convoluted, but there was, and still is, a difference between a hipster and a simple vintage clothing lover.

Step back in time a few years to discover the origins of the hipster look, and when vintage styles became mainstream and cool again.

The start of hipsters
Although some people have worn vintage styles for years, the hipster movement only took off a few years ago. Original hipsters were originally dressed somewhat in Gothic styles, and other forms dark clothing that was against the mainstream. Much of the original hipster styles were more similar to emo clothing than the vintage and nerdy styles that many hipsters wear today. It was only after emo and Gothic styles started to become mainstream that hipsters had to look elsewhere to look different than the rest of society.

The melding of vintage and hipster
When everyone started wearing the emo clothing styles for everyday, hipsters had to move on to other styles to stand out. This is when many online bloggers and independent-loving individuals turned to vintage clothing styles for inspiration. People who previously only wore vintage styles because they loved them, now had to compete with the hipsters who wore the styles ironically and in ways that looked more nerdy than classic. Big glasses, skinny jeans, and oxford shoes became the hallmark of hipster and vintage style alike. The main difference between true vintage lovers and hipsters was whether the girls wore pants or dresses.

Vintage becomes mainstream
Like any other fringe trend, people get used to seeing certain styles and want to wear them for their own. The start of TV shows set in past decades also helped stir the desire for mainstream vintage-inspired fashion. Now it is not unusual to see vintage styles on celebrities, hipsters, schoolgirls, and your grandmother in the same place. This melding of decades brings new variety and interest to trendy fashions of the day.

Vintage lovers embrace the new trends
People who have always loved vintage styles are embracing the current vintage trend as well as hipsters. The problem with real vintage clothing is that it is often delicate and made in sizes that are different than today’s body types. When clothing makers create modern sized clothing in vintage styles, more people can embrace the trend and wear the fashions of the past without worrying about fit or the condition of the fabric itself.

Hipsters wear vintage differently
The current mainstream vintage look incorporates one or two vintage trends into modern outfits, such as by placing a Peter Pan collar on a work blouse, or by giving a peplum shape to a casual top. Most people do not wear complete vintage from head to toe to avoid looking like they come from a costume party. A hipster will take several vintage trends and wear them with other hallmark hipster styles, including large glasses, funky hats, clunky shoes, and socks with dress shoes that looks more like an exaggerated version of someone from a past decade than any modern styles. Someone who really loves vintage fashion may take inspiration from vintage clothing and vintage hairstyles. They will look less nerdy than the typical hipster, but more like they belong in a past decade.

Although hipsters and vintage lovers do look similar, and some of the things that they like collide, they are two distinct entities. While hipsters explore the fashions of the past along with unusual movies, music, and old-fashioned technology, vintage lovers simply wear vintage because they love it. Hipsters can be vintage-lovers, but not all hipsters are the same as vintage-lovers. The difference is subtle, and often confusing, but with a little practice it is easy to tell the difference.

The History Behind Gucci

The History Behind Gucci:
Gucci is an Italian fashion owned by French Company PPR. The Gucci brand was established in 1921 by Guccio Gucci.

Since it's inception Gucci has been one of the worlds’s most accomplished producers of clothing, luxury leather goods and other high fashion items. In 1920 young Guccio Gucci, inspired with the opulent suitcases, set up a shop that sold superior leather goods. Primarily Gucci hired skilled workers who paid special attention to finishing. As the time passed, machine stitching method was implemented which increased the output.

With the help of his three sons, Gucci increased the company by opening a shop in Milan and Rome. His stores characterized finely worked leather handbags, shoes, knitwear and ornamented loafer in a signature pattern.

Guccio Gucci departed in the year 1953. The company was further expanded by his sons Aldo and Rudolfo Gucci. In the same year their father died, they established workplaces in the New York City. That is where Gucci began to gain international influence. The Gucci brand became an icon as famous celebrities wore the products for advertisement in magazines.

The uniqueness in the designs made Gucci one of the top sold consumer products in the early 20th century. During 1947 to 1974 Gucci made remarkable patterns and designs. It improved its raw materials and expanded its categories.

The 1970s were the peak times for Gucci Company. In 1983 Adolfo Gucci died and the family was surrounded by difference of opinions. His son Maurizio dethroned his uncle Aldo who served for being convicted of tax evasion and took charge of the company. He demonstrated to be an ineffective president of the company. The company was sold to Investcorp in 1988. The new shareholders gave charge to the family attorney. Domenico De Sole was made the new head of the company in 1995.

To restore the status of the company Dawn Mello was hired as the editor and designer of ready-to-wear creations. Considering the name of the company he hired Tom Ford as the chief designer of ready-made category in 1990. Mello and Ford changed the Gucci headquarters back to Florence where Gucci’s craft custom had originated.

Mello and Ford lifted the Gucci brand to even higher standings than it was before. From 2000 to 2005 they condensed the total number of the Gucci products. They reduced the overall number of Gucci products from twenty thousand to five thousand. Their last spring assortment was a significant commercial accomplishment.

In 2005 the identity of heir to Ford’s position was announced. A group of young skilled designers were to replace him. Ford still provides with matchless designs for Gucci brand.

Today Gucci is a label that is familiar in every part of the world. Their designs are sold everywhere. Many upcoming designers get their inspiration from this brand.

5 Worst Celebrity Makeup Disasters

Celebrities are constantly in the spotlight, and often times, their worst days completely outshine one of our best days. But celebrities are not always perfect.

You would think that with the large posse of stylists and makeup artists they have on hand, most celebrities would never step foot outside looking like a disaster. Thankfully, they do, and the following are five of the worst celebrity makeup disasters to ever be caught on camera.

1. Pamela Anderson
Usually known for her bright red lips and subtle makeup (who's looking at her face anyway?), Pamela Anderson usually keeps herself well groomed and beautiful. This time, however, she managed to overdo the eyeliner just a bit. Not only does the black eyeliner extend too far passed her eye (making her eyes look squinted), it also stands out because she paired it with soft and subtle makeup everywhere else. Maybe her bright red lips would have calmed down the abrasive eyeliner, or maybe it would have made the disaster worse. Either way, this makeup failed.

2. Kim Kardashian
Whether she's going for a natural look or wearing a thick layer of makeup, Kim usually pulls off a great look. Her facial features allow her to rock most styles, and she can easily transform from lazy day to night life at the drop of a hat. On this day, though, Kim made the wrong makeup choice. Not only does the bright blue eyeliner below her eye stand out like a sore thumb, but bright blue does not complement Kim's natural skin or eye color, which just makes the whole look even more awkward. Throw the bright blue eyeliner away, Kim. It's not doing you any favors.

3. Christina Aguilera
Christina has been on her fair share of worst lists, and through all of her fashion mishaps, this makeup disaster makes one more addition. Christina often wears a bright lipstick color, and usually, the bright pink she's adorning wouldn't be an issue. In fact, it's actually the best part about this look. The combination of blush mixed with a paler skin tone makes her cheeks and forehead look transparent. Combine that with the thick and dark eyeliner, and you have yourself a hot makeup mess. We hope you fired your stylist, Christina. This look just had way too much going on.

4. Mischa Barton
Drawing attention to your eyes is usually a good thing when it comes to makeup, but Misha does it all wrong. The thick dark eyeliner coupled with the dark eye shadow dulls her eyes. When you add this to the soft palette of her other makeup, it washes out her face, making her face appear lifeless. We're all for the smokey eye look, but it only works when it complements the rest of your face.

5. Eva Longoria
Note to self: apply makeup to entire face before stepping out in public. Having raccoon eyes from sunglasses is one thing, but what happened to Eva's face? This pale line under her eyes is extremely strange, and it seems as if she either forgot to put makeup there or didn't even try to cover it up. We praise you for stepping out in public like this, but we are still wondering why.

5 Most Popular Printed T-Shirts for Toddlers

hippo shirt
There are a large number of T-shirt designs for toddlers, ranging from a plain shirt to complex graphics and layered prints. Choosing the day's T-shirt can have a large effect on not only your child's appearance, but their mood, energy level, and even their expectations for the day. The following collection of the most popular designs will help you to choose some great shirts for your toddler.

1. Customized T-Shirts

Customized T-shirts have always been popular but none more so than with young children. Toddlers like nothing more than to hear their name, and to have a shirt with their name on it is even better. It can also help with early reading skills as they will come to recognize their name sooner. Try teaming up their name with a favorite animal and they will always want to wear it. Choose a T-shirt in their favorite color and you'll have hard time getting them out of it.

2. The iPoo'd T-shirt

This toddler's T-shirt is a play on the classic mp3 player name and control wheel, only this time the iPoo'd title in the famous font makes you do a double take and you can't help but smile. On this shirt, the menu button at the top of the control wheel is replaced with a change me button. This shirt is especially relevant to toddlers and their parents, as kids who are potty-training at this stage are known to announce their achievements. What better way to reward them than with this humorous T-shirt? Particularly popular amongst young parents and the tech-savvy, shirts like this are an instant hit.

3. The Superhero T-shirt

Superheroes have never been more popular than now. Every kid has his or her favorite superhero and being that superhero is every kid's dream. Give your child a head start with their own superhero T-shirt. You can choose from an action graphic or the superhero's emblem such as Batman's bat, Wonder Woman's W's, or Captain America's shield.

4. The Animated Movie T-shirt

Every year, new animated movies come out and kids become fascinated with the characters and their personalities. Animated movies translate really well on to T-shirt designs, because they are usually simple, brightly colored, and have exaggerated expressions: three things that kids love.

5. One for the Parents

An all-time popular shirt is the one that brings the family together. Phrases such as I Love Dad, Grandma’s Little Boy and Mom are The Best are favorites. They are a good ego boost, too.

Toddlers live in T-shirts and making sure they enjoy wearing them is something you should really think about. Bright, playful colors, strong engaging designs, and simple phrases work best. Colored shirts can be a great way for your kids to learn the names of colors early on. There are so many different designs out there, so if you can't find what you are looking for, simply create your own.

Shipping Masts To Fashion ~ History's Look At Denim Jeans

Jeans, or denim, was first used as material in ship's sails in Genoa, Italy, as it was sturdy and could stand up to the strong gales that blew in the middle of the oceans.  Peasants soon found that the cloth was more resistant to stress than other fabrics and many favoured it over any other cloth.

The words "Jeans" comes from the Italian word, "genuense", meaning "of Genoa" and the word "jean" was what the locals called corduroy; which it closely resembled at the time.  The first pair of jeans is now on display at the Museo Centrale del Risorgimento and were ones that were worn by Giuseppe Garibaldi in May, 1860.

After jeans were exported throughout Europe, the procedure was copied by weavers in the French city of Nimes.  After much painstaking experiments that often failed, a twill fabric was developed that became quickly known as denim, or "de Nimes".  It wasn't until the end of the 18th century that jeans arrived in North America.

In the 1850's, dry goods merchant, 24 year old Levi Strauss left New York for San Fransisco where he began selling his Levi's jeans to the mining communities of California during the peak of the Gold Rush.  When asked by one of the prospectors what he was selling, Strauss replied tents and wagon covers and the prospector retorted, "You should've brought pants!", Strauss put his business savvy to work and created the first pair of denim trouser overalls.

One of his regular customers, Jacob Davies, a tailor who often bought bolts of cloth from Strauss' wholesale house, invented the copper rivet to help reinforce the stress points that his customers were often complaining about.  Davis, a man of meager means, approached Strauss and asked if he would like to go into business together and the two patented the idea on May 20, 1873.

Jeans were first used in North America by workers, as trousers were simple and sturdy, especially those who worked in the factories during World War II.  Until the 1960's, Levi Strauss dominated the market with his "waist overalls" rather than "jeans.:

In 1955, James Dean, set the pace for jeans as we know them today, when he wore the first pair in the movie, "Rebel Without A Cause."  This trend began to plant the seeds of teenage angst and rebellion.  During the 1950's, jeans were banned from being worn in theaters, restaurants and schools.  During the 1960's, jeans became more acceptable as the hippie movement continued to express themselves through the rebellious process of wearing what they considered an act of freedom of choice and by the 1970's, they were the general fashion choice for casual wear clothing.

Nowadays, you can find jeans in almost every colour, style and size, for men, women and children.  In 2005, American's alone, spent over $15 billion dollars in jean fashion sales.  From supporting ships to supporting fashion, denim has proven to be a remarkable invention indeed.
