The History Behind Gucci

The History Behind Gucci:
Gucci is an Italian fashion owned by French Company PPR. The Gucci brand was established in 1921 by Guccio Gucci.

Since it's inception Gucci has been one of the worlds’s most accomplished producers of clothing, luxury leather goods and other high fashion items. In 1920 young Guccio Gucci, inspired with the opulent suitcases, set up a shop that sold superior leather goods. Primarily Gucci hired skilled workers who paid special attention to finishing. As the time passed, machine stitching method was implemented which increased the output.

With the help of his three sons, Gucci increased the company by opening a shop in Milan and Rome. His stores characterized finely worked leather handbags, shoes, knitwear and ornamented loafer in a signature pattern.

Guccio Gucci departed in the year 1953. The company was further expanded by his sons Aldo and Rudolfo Gucci. In the same year their father died, they established workplaces in the New York City. That is where Gucci began to gain international influence. The Gucci brand became an icon as famous celebrities wore the products for advertisement in magazines.

The uniqueness in the designs made Gucci one of the top sold consumer products in the early 20th century. During 1947 to 1974 Gucci made remarkable patterns and designs. It improved its raw materials and expanded its categories.

The 1970s were the peak times for Gucci Company. In 1983 Adolfo Gucci died and the family was surrounded by difference of opinions. His son Maurizio dethroned his uncle Aldo who served for being convicted of tax evasion and took charge of the company. He demonstrated to be an ineffective president of the company. The company was sold to Investcorp in 1988. The new shareholders gave charge to the family attorney. Domenico De Sole was made the new head of the company in 1995.

To restore the status of the company Dawn Mello was hired as the editor and designer of ready-to-wear creations. Considering the name of the company he hired Tom Ford as the chief designer of ready-made category in 1990. Mello and Ford changed the Gucci headquarters back to Florence where Gucci’s craft custom had originated.

Mello and Ford lifted the Gucci brand to even higher standings than it was before. From 2000 to 2005 they condensed the total number of the Gucci products. They reduced the overall number of Gucci products from twenty thousand to five thousand. Their last spring assortment was a significant commercial accomplishment.

In 2005 the identity of heir to Ford’s position was announced. A group of young skilled designers were to replace him. Ford still provides with matchless designs for Gucci brand.

Today Gucci is a label that is familiar in every part of the world. Their designs are sold everywhere. Many upcoming designers get their inspiration from this brand.

Birthstones 101

Did you know that birthstones have a deep and meaningful history related to Christianity? In Western custom, first century Jewish historian Josephus proclaimed a connection between the twelve stones on Aaron the Levite’s breastplate, the twelve months of the year, and the twelve zodiac signs. In the eighth and ninth centuries, religious treaties were written associating a particular stone with an apostle, and practice then was to keep a total of 12 stones and wear one every month. The list often changed, but was finally standardized in 1912 by the American National Association of Jewelers. Nowadays, birthstones have little to do with their religious origins, but are still worn as symbols of the various qualities that symbolize the wearer’s month of birth.

Leading online diamond retailer Brilliance Corp. releases its latest infographic, Facts about Birthstones. The handy informational tool gives a brief description of each birthstone from each month, from January to December, as well as the corresponding symbolism of the stone. Also included in the graphic are fun facts that can help you learn more about your unique birthstone, or help you choose the perfect stone for a loved one.

Watches, Necklaces, Bikinis: The Most Expensive Ever!

Costume jewellery is becoming increasingly popular. It is, of course, always better to wear real jewellery, meaning precious stones and metals, but because of the high cost involved, it is by no means essential. As long as the piece is well made, costume jewellery can enhance an outfit as much as the real McCoy would. If your budget is limitless, here are a few sought-after pieces you might want to invest in, featuring five of the most expensive pieces of jewellery ever sold.

The most expensive
The most expensive jewel sold at an auction to date is the Graff Pink, sold in November 2010 at Sotheby's Geneva for £28.9 million to Laurence Graff, the London jeweller. One of its previous owners was the American jeweller, Harry Winston. It consists of a 24.78-carat fancy intense pink diamond, set in platinum, flanked by two shield, shaped white diamond shoulders. It is a rectangular step-cut stone with round corners and truly exquisite. This would take costume jewellery to a new height.

Most expensive bikini?
Feel like wearing the most expensive bikini on the beach? For £18.8 million you can catch a tan wearing 150 carats of D quality diamonds, which include a pearl shaped stone of 51 carats and no flaws, a 30-carat cut flawless emerald, two 15-carat cut round and two 8-carat pearl shaped diamonds with no flaws. The bikini was designed and manufactured by Susan Rosen and Steinmetz Diamonds and was worn by Molly Sims on the 2006 Sportswear Illustrated swimsuit cover. This bikini gives a new meaning to costume jewellery.

Ear rings
For a truly unusual set of drop earrings, prepare to pay £5.32 million for 60.1 carats of two sets of pear-shaped diamonds set in platinum. This is the perfect accessory, no matter what you wear. Harry Winston of Rodeo Drive, "jeweller to the stars", created this pair in 2006. Don't be surprised if you see these earrings, the most expensive in the world, on the Hollywood red carpet at the Oscars, adorning the ears of the likes of Angelina Jolie.

Watch
For the most expensive watch ever sold, look no further than the beautiful yellow gold pocket watch designed and created by Patek Phillipe in 1939. A banker from New York commissioned the watch designer to manufacture a watch with the most functions in the world. It was four years in the making and its mechanism rivals a small computer. Even its face is complicated, yet this does not detract from its beauty and functionality. In 1999, the Supercomplication (yes, it even has its own name) sold for £6.89 million. Nobody would blame you if you very noticeably check the time every half an hour.

Bracelet
Fancy yourself wearing a bracelet that once belonged to Wallis Simpson, whose love was the reason that King Edward VIII gave up the British throne? The onyx and diamond Cartier panther bracelet was sold in November 2010 at Sotheby's in London for £4.5 million to Madonna, according to rumour. The panther, with glittering emeralds for eyes, is stretched out and the bottom is made of articulated silver pieces so it bends around the wearer's wrist.

Whether you wear costume jewellery or the genuine article, make sure you do it with class.

Sustainable Power in Watches - Fashion and Function

You’ve seen the adverts about the Citizen Eco Drive watch, but it’s hard to look any deeper than the hyped media that is pushed out by advertising agencies. What you need is the facts and figures of why these watches are so special and what has been done to ensure the quality and “constant power” they have been projected as having.

Solar power

The power of the sun has been harnessed to be used in any different appliances in the world, but what has been applicable on the top of buildings, in farms built specifically for this type of power, and located on the top of calculators, has been hard to imitate on an ever mobile wrist with inconsistent light levels.

The difference has been through the technological advances made to solar energy and the integration by Citizen to create a watch face that allows the watch to look as stylish as it is functional.

Getting technical, the solar panel in the watch consists of a micron thin disc of amorphous Silicon, this small piece of synthietically made material is then placed underneath the dial and then converts light energy into an electrical energy through a process known as the photovoltaic process (the process common to all solar panels).

Because the energy can be built and stored efficiently behind the scenes, it means that all the aesthetic design qualities can be kept, the watch can be powered efficiently, and the hands don’t stop ticking, especially when you consider the energy cell inside the watch is expected to last a lifetime.

Most citizen watches will not need to have the power source changed, but even so it is wise to have the watch serviced every few years, as the water resistant aspect of the watch is not a permanent feature of any watch as the rubber seal can deteriorate after time.

The way that these watches are powered, makes wonder why the lithium batteries that power so many other watches and cause a slight detriment to the environment in their mining and distribution. There are other brands of watches that are making the same progress in using natural energy.

Kinetic Watches

The other form of watch that has been around since watches began is the kinetic movement charger, the turning of a charger may once have been the only way to create kinetic energy, but now, designers and companies have created a watch that keeps its charge by using the wearers natural energy as they move around, swing their arms whilst walking, typing at a computer, all of these minute movements will contribute to the charge of the watch.

Watch technology has advanced dramatically since the first watches, and even since the turn of the century we have created watches that test the traditional designs, internally and externally. Without which we would never have these stunning designs.

Andy is a technology enthusiast and writer for The Watch Department and designer watches that are sold there. There are both kinetic watches and solar powered Citizen watches available on the site.

Day 3 ~ Holiday Gift Guide ~ Momo's Piggery

Momo's Piggery's Mission Statement is to find forever loving homes for their cute clay creatures.

This is how it all started...

Hello all, how lovely of you to stop by!
Somewhere back in May 2011…
*ring ring*

“Hello momo, this is Sue (CavyHouse guinea pig rescue)
We are putting together a fund raiser event together, can you come and help?”
“Of course I would...”
And this is how it all started as I sat there on fat butt and thought of ways we could raise money to pad up CavyHouse’s vet fund...
Hm… we can sew some cozies for sale... but I don’t sew!
Well, we can have some baked goods for sale,… but we don’t have a food license…
What about some guinea pig themed crafts for sale?
Uh,... eh... hmm...
Well, what kind of crafts can I do that doesn’t involve sewing, drawing, painting or cutting?
*cue gospel music in the background*

I give you adoptable polymer clay guinea pigs!

The idea of encouraging adoption instead of buying or breeding is very important to the folks at Momo's Piggery, so this will also play a big role in their shop.

Each will come with their own adoption certificate, and by adopting them, you promise to love and care for them forever.

Momo's Piggery normally sells their creations at the Cavy House Guinea Pig Rescue monthly fundraisers, but they hope to reach a wider audience online. More than anything else, they enjoy making things that others can enjoy - and of course, it is all for a good cause.

Most of their items are made with polymer clay, jewelry grade metals, glass beads, and reclaimed items such as apple wood sticks from a neighbor's tree and biodegradable confetti. Now they can look good, adopt a shelter clay guinea pig, and help planet Earth!

If you have a question or would love to know more about Momo's Piggery herd of wheekities, please ask or visit their  personal blog at:

They ship outside the USA too~!!

My Thoughts~!!

I had the wonderful opportunity to review a Momo's Piggery necklace...the Maggie –guinea pig pendant necklace (with frosted crystal glass beads and Joy charm)...it was REALLY cute...Maggie is beautifully crafted and my daughter LOVES the necklace and wore it to school to get her friends thoughts.  The girls squealed over how adorable the necklace was and it was endearing to hear my daughter explain to them that the women who made it for her also helps Guinea Pigs because they are her best friends.

Maggie is a petite little girl guinea pig who sports the signature Momo's Piggery eyepatch.  She hangs on a 16" silver-plated chain necklace with a little frosted crystal bead and a silver-plated Joy charm.  The clasp on the necklace is a silver lobster clasp.

There are little notes about Maggie that are really cute.  Like how Maggie loves to go shopping, especially for groceries in the produce aisle or how September is her birthday month.

You also receive a business card sized adoption certificate stating that the "name of guinea pig" was adopted by you or whoever you wish to be the bearer of the adoption and that the piece you purchased was made with love and that the recipient promises to care for their clayest member of the family.  It is just too cute~!!

Momo's Piggery doesn't just make necklaces, they also make keychains, bracelets, magnets, charms, earrings and bookmarks...PLUS, they are always open for new ideas~!!

I also received a Adopt A Piggy keyring, Rocky is embellished with a green glass leaf and a silver-plated paw print and a Got Wheek magnet.  The magnets are about 1" in diameter and have a very strong magnet on the back of them.

I think these adorable items would make GREAT stocking stuffer gifts!!  Not only would you be giving something delightful to your loved one but you would be helping a worthy cause!

A portion of ALL sales goes to help the CAVY HOUSE Guinea Pig Rescue~!!

Cavy House is a non-profit no-kill organization that rescues guinea pigs from local bay area shelters and provides the necessary veterinary care and socializing needed to place these guinea pigs into forever, loving homes.  Cavy House also boards guinea pigs to help pay for rescue expenses.

What a great way to help...purchase something wonderful for a loved one and help a worthy cause...now that's the TRUE meaning of Christmas~!!

** Disclosure: I did not accept any compensation from the sponsors other than review copies, my views are my own, reviewed by me..as I see it~!! **

Famous Jewellery disasters

Famous jewellery disasters
Glossy magazines and TV shows are full of tips on how to wear the latest fashion trends but there is little advice available on how to wear jewellery. Perhaps that explains why so many celebrities are known for their jewellery faux pas. For most of us the word, "bling" has negative connotations but it seems many celebrities aspire to "bling" greatness. You only have to look at the celebs at red carpet events to understand why the price of gold remains high. Yet, with just a small amount of taste and some expert advice they could be wearing their gold and silver costume jewellery with style.

Let's start with earrings. There are some beautiful earrings around that flatter the face, enhance a hairstyle and complement a necklace and a stylish outfit. Perhaps someone should have whispered in the ear of EastEnders' Pat Butcher. The character brought to life by actress, Pat St. Clement is renowned for her large and loud earrings. Pat's problem is wearing the big and colourful earrings with equally loud outfits. Go for a statement with jewellery or clothing but not both.

Unsurprisingly, many famous jewellery disasters were sported by men but we can still learn by their mistakes. Rap and hip-hop stars seem to top the list, taking "bling" to extremes. Rap star and TV personality, Flavor Flav is known for his gold crown and his clock necklace, usually worn at the same time. At more than 50 years old, Mr Flav should know better and stick with some understated silver costume jewellery instead.

The hip-hopper, Slick Rick piles on the big gold chains and medallions and Welsh band, Goldie Lookin' Chain complete their ironic "chav" look by wearing several cheap looking rings and chains with their tracksuits. At least GLC wear their gold with deliberate irony but surely Slick Rick's stylist should teach him that less is more.

It's not just edgy pop stars who favour quantity over quality. Middle aged media personality, David Gest is often seen sporting a Goth style in both his clothing and jewellery, with large silver crucifixes slung around his neck. Sadly, however, the silver costume jewellery and the overall look fail to convince on this bearded celebrity. Actor, Laurence Tureaud has made the A Team's Mr T another personality known more for his excessive number of gold chains than his skills and talent.

Older celebrities appear to be particularly prone to jewellery disasters. The late great Jimmy Saville loved to wear the tracksuit and gold chains and medallions combination so ironically imitated by GLC. Mr Saville ran many marathons to raise money for various charities but one assumes he removed the gold neck jewellery first!

Horse racing commentator, John McCririck favours rings and is another celebrity in "less is more" denial. With each finger sporting a ring in a variety of metals and styles, he might just get away with this very individual style, were it not for his trademark tweed jacket, deerstalker hat and big sideburns.

Speaking of rings, someone should talk to socialite, Paris Hilton. Her huge diamond encrusted ring bearing the initials BM for her boyfriend Benji Madden was much photographed but was greatly lacking in taste. Silver costume jewellery can make a statement without being obviously over the top.

This Guest post was contributed by Clare Westwood an aspiring blogger. Clare has an avid interest in Jewellery and loves to pass on her experience and knowledge through content on the internet. She is currently writing on behalf of www.pearlandbutler.com who sells gorgeous costume jewellery.

Alli's Originals Review

Alli is a 35 year old stay at home Mom (Mompreneur) who began making jewelry as a hobby over 9 years ago. She began with beaded projects, key chains & wire work. After a few years of jewelry design, she began teaching courses in jewelry making and hosting jewelry making Birthday parties. After years of designing jewelry, Alli began taking courses in silversmithing and lost wax casting. Alli's Collection has expanded over the last couple of years and now includes hand stamped pendants and charms, hand cut pendants and unique casted charms that are only available exclusively through Alli's Originals. As well, a great collection for men. The Prince Charming Collection

Alli's biggest inspiration came from her experience as a new Mom to her son Jacob. Jacob was the inspiration behind her latest collection of jewelry which led to her having a website and officially opening up her shop! Her collection now sells in stores worldwide.

Alli works closely with each client to design a piece that is truly unique, special and one of a kind. Her clients have a big part in the design and creative process so their vision can become a reality.

These make GREAT gifts for moms, dads, children, grandparents, teachers or anyone you have a special fondness for and you wish to share it with them or you can grab one for yourself.  You can give them for wedding presents, anniversaries, graduations or just to celebrate that special day.  Add your children's name and/or birthdates, your husbands or the first day you got your new job...the possibilities are endless~!!

If you don't wish to have it personalized, Alli's Originals has many non-personalized items to choose from.  There are toe rings, pet tags, key chains, Hebrew jewelry and much more.

My Thoughts~!!

First of all, I need to tell you folks that Alli from Alli's Originals is one REALLY groovy lady~!!  I have to say that she is about one of the nicest people I have met since I began reviewing.  For that aspect ALONE, it would be worth anyone's while to purchase a few of her beautiful jewelry products for your very own~!!

I have six children and one grand daughter and I wasn't sure if Alli would be able to fit some of their names on the discs, a couple of my darlings have hyphenated names.  After some friendly collaboration betwixt the two of us, we were able to come up with a solution that was agreeable to us both.  It arrived in a timely manner in a delightful little tin box, that my daughter now uses to keep some of her small Pet Shop toy accessories inside.

It has been around my neck since the moment I put it on and is only removed when I shower.  I'm not much for wearing jewelry and I cannot even feel it around my neck. The discs are quite small and I was impressed to see that Alli was able to fit all the names upon it and they can be read quite illegibly. It sits really nice on the wearer, it's not heavy nor does it ever catch upon anything...not even my hair!!

My youngest daughter touches her name EVERY day since I received it, she got a real kick out of seeing her name on a piece of jewelry.  Her name is in old Gaelic and she never EVER see's her name anywhere and when she saw it she was AMAZED~!!  OH and to find out that Alli has a niece with the exact same name was really neat to hear...most people spell her name incorrectly, I cannot blame them, it's not a common name and no one EVER says it the right way...however, Alli knew exactly what I meant and the worry that it would be spelled wrong was quickly removed!!

I truly LOVE my personalized necklace that I received from Alli Originals...thank you Alli for being a really great woman (you should check out the charity work she does...TRULY amazing~!!) and we at Mad Moose Mama wish you all the best of success in all that you do~!!

Hand Vibes Review & Giveaway~!!

Hand Vibes is the first product created by Caseyboy Productions, a brand new company dedicated to bringing innovative products to children around the world.  Founded in 2010 by Scott Silverstein, former CEO and president of The Topps Company, who is known for their trading cards, ring pops and Bazooka bubble gum, just to name a few.

Hand Vibes is a fun way for kids of all ages to keep their attitude on their fingers!  There are three rings in each pack, in nine vibrant colours, 25 unique sayings and five rare emoticon designs with over 235 different possibilities.  Each pack includes two different ring sizes so that children are sure to find one that fits their fingers...or their toes~!!

Be sure to check out the mystery ring compartment where you could find a rare emoticon or a black or blue swirled ring inside.  These rings are randomly placed in one out of every six packages.

The Series 1 designs are colour coordinated, you can check out each of the designs associated with the rings by clicking on each coloured ring found on the Hand Vibes site.

Colours such as Groovy Green *my personal favourite*, Bro Blue, OMG Indigo, BFF Black, Peace Purple, Rad Red, Boo-Yah Yellow and Epic Orange and a saying for any attitude, such as Peace, True Dat, Shut Up and Love!!

COLLECT THEM, TRADE THEM, and ALWAYS keep your ATTITUDE at your fingertips with
HAND VIBES~!!

My Thoughts~!!

The kids and I thought these were neat!!  My youngest daughter couldn't WAIT to try them on, they truly spoke to her fad craze nature~!!

She wore a set of them to school and ended up giving one away, she was hounded ALL day by the kids...and she LOVED every minute of it!!  She thought the best thing to do would be to share one with a friend and bring a smile to their face also!!

The rings are made of the same material that the fashion statement bracelets are made of.  I thought they were a little wide, but I don't wear any jewelry on my fingers as its uncomfortable for me, so this didn't surprize me!  The kids were able to wear them without any worries or inhibitions and they loved flashing them in each others faces!!

I believe these Hand Vibe rings would make GREAT stocking stuffers OR loot bag prizes... kids LOVE that kind of thing~!!

Now the groovy folks at Hand Vibes and we at the Moose Marsh would LOVE LOVE LOVE to give you an opportunity to win a set of these for your very own~!!

Sweet and neat...dontcha think??!!
