10 Awesome Games to Be Released in June 2012

With how big the gaming industry has become, it’s important to stay on top of your game release news. Of course, if you’re paying attention in 2012, that can still be an insurmountable challenge. There are so many successful and anticipated franchises out there now that it can be easy to get lost in all the game release madness. So let’s narrow our focus down to a single month: June 2012. Next month’s game releases might prove to be seminal and year-defining, even if you’re waiting for fall for some of the bigger names (like Assassin’s Creed III) to be released. Here’s ten reasons why.

1. Madagascar 3
The Video Game. Okay, maybe this isn’t exactly the genre-defying release you’re hoping for, but it might be exactly the release your son or daughter is looking for, especially if they’re already a fan of the film franchise.

2. Pikmin 2
The original Pikmin having been something of a popular cult hit, we say it’ about time th second entry in the franchise made its mark. It will have the opportunity to do so this June on the Nintendo Wii, and if you aren’t excited about the new Pikmin video game platform, then we don’t know what to tell you.

3. Lollipop Chainsaw
No, it’s not a franchise, so there’s no number after the title – yet. That’s because Lollipop Chainsaw is an original in the zombie genre, and the cheerleader main character might just have some staying power – that is, if fans are willing to give her a chance.

4. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
What else can you hope for from a Tom Clancy game than another edition of the Ghost Recon series? It’s everything that’s right about the genre, especially if you’re already a fan of the franchise.

5. Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes
If you’re like us, then you’ve been waiting for the inevitable Batman/Lego collaboration repeat for years. Okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but it’s hard to ignore the combination.

6. Sid Meier’s Civilization VGods and Kings
We like to follow anything Civilization-related, even if it sometimes just means updates to the main titles. But there should be some interesting things to explore in this Civ V expansion.

7. Spec Ops: The Line
You can’t deny the innovation of the Spec Ops formula, actually being a third-person shooter that accomplishes a lot that a first-person shooter. It will be interesting to see this release.

8. The Amazing Spider-Man
A release for the Nintendo DS coinciding with the release of the movie, there are a lot of kids out here who can’t wait to get their hands on this.

9. Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2
Admittedly, you have to really like shooters to like this game. But if you do, then you’re likely excited about this entry to the genre.

10. Combat Wings: The Great Battles of WWII
History buffs, get ready: it’s tough to ignore this title.

My kids, especially the boys, absolutely loved this game~!!  They had never played it though they have seen commercials and they were pumped to be able to check it out for their very own~!!

This is a game that even my random seven~year~old can play.  I was very worried that he would become disgruntled as he does not like to lose but he adapted quite well even with all his most un~strategic way of playing.

The boys were playing this for hours and hours and whenever they are looking for something to do, they break out their newest fascination and play away.  I don't even hear a peep out of them except..."hit" or "miss"...lol  Okay...sometimes my youngest son needs to be reminded that he's already asked to a coordinate or be reminded not to put pegs in places where they aren't needed.

We were also impressed with the different style of Alien ships that were cleverly included in this version of BATTLESHIP.  Everyone wants to be the Alien ships in this household...lol

My kids cannot wait to see the new BATTLESHIP movie and with wonderful tie~ins such as the Classic BATLLESHIP movie edition game, you cannot go wrong for fun and entertainment.  HASBRO has proved themselves to shine in the imaginations of children~!!

PRODUCT REVIEW: Trigger! by Blue Orange Games

Blue Orange Games believes the simple pleasure that comes from sharing good times with friends and family around a great game to be very precious.

TRIGGER!  The Answer Lies In Your Hands~!!

Slap yourselves silly in this highly addictive, family fun game~!!

Players answer "true" or "false" to statements as quickly as you can by slapping the target.

Right Hand = "TRUE" while the Left Hand = "FALSE"

Sound easy?  Do you think you have the quickest and most accurate reaction time?  This game will deliver hours of amusement while you learn a bit about each other and practice your fine motor skills and quick thinking abilities.

Ages:  8 & Up
3 to 8 players

I love the inter-activeness of the game Trigger!  The kids and myself giggled hysterically as we forgot sometimes which hand to slap with.

I was given the pleasure to review a sample packet of Trigger! (as well as the game Spot It!   See review here.)  We didn't even get to play the full version of the game and we still had loads of happy times!  I kept thinking how groovy it would be to have the full deck to play but we made the best of it and still had tons of fun!

This is a great game to pass by rainy days and even long drives with...the answers are not always the same as there are more than one option on the cards.

Options include such antics as...

I have a band-aid on one of my fingers.
My nose is between my ears.
The word "three" is four letters long.
Chickens have teeth.

The possibilities, like I said, are endless as there are six different statements upon each card.  I loved the look on everyone's face as they first concentrated on the statement to process if it applied to them, before slamming their hands down onto the pile.  It was somewhat reminiscence of the card game, "War" and/or the board game, "Hands Down".  One would end up reacting so fast they'd end up putting the wrong hand down and have to forfeit, you'd hear groans from whomever did it and giggles from everyone else.

Very impressed with this game~!!

And a HUGE bonus to me is that for EVERY board game BLUE ORANGE GAMES creates, they will plant TWO TREES for its creation~!!  I am a tree hugger and to me, that is one hecka groovy selling point~!!  Thank you Blue Orange Games for having a groovy soul...not only do you make us laugh, stimulate our brains, but you care for the world and those who dwell upon it~!!

The materials involved with production comply to all safety standards, including lead, heavy metals, mechanical hazards and flamability.

They have received the prestigious Green Toy Award as well as receiving over 50 awards through the years.  This dedication to the environment, quality and safety has earned Blue Orange Games an outstanding reputation.

Their games are designed in California and France while manufactured in the Orient with well-established, family-run factories.

The kids LOVED this game and they played it for hours before putting it away!  It was a pleasure to see their smiles and their tongues sticking out of the sides of their mouths as they concentrated to be the first player to Spot It!

I ended up taking this game out to the neighbourhood one day when there were loads of children outside playing, just to see what their reaction would be.  I had a line up of about a dozen children after word started spreading and I had the winner play the next person in line.  The non-winner would immediately run to the back of the line to get into place for their next turn.  I was quite impressed as a lot of these children have serious attention span problems and they talked and got along as they waited for their turn.

I liked how everyone interacted with each other, there was no fighting, no competitive outbursts, no whining; it was truly bliss.  I learned that my eight year old daughter has a very sharp eye as she usually only ended losing out to the much older children, but she's quick and I was impressed.

There are five different ways in which you can play the game and everyone had their favourite way of playing.  The quickest for a large group of kids is more like in a War style fashion, where you have the first person who sees the match, slap their hands down onto the cards.  It was very entertaining for them and ate their time in a positive manner.

If your a game playing family, this is a game that is one that can be played for hours of fun!  Spot It!  is great for 2 to 8 players ages 7 and up, however, I did have 5 year old's playing without any difficulties other than reaction time to older children.

The Best Bachelorette Party Supplies and Games

Bachelor parties are synonymous with wild fun and crazy times. But there's no reason why the guys should have all the fun when it comes to celebrating an upcoming marriage. The rules have changed and things aren’t limited to boring bridal showers anymore. You don't have to settle for sitting in someone's home while sipping tea and reminiscing about childhood memories. If it's your job to plan your best friend’s bachelorette party,  you can let your imagination run loose with some truly creative ideas. Make it a night where there are no rules and give the bride-to-be a reason to celebrate. She's about to have the most important day in her life, but before that you can give her a party filled with good friends, laughter, and just a few moments you might have to keep secret. Here are some suggestions for great bachelorette party games to get you started.

Truth or Dare - this is a classic game that most people haven't played since they were back in high school. But it's time to dust off your truth or dare skills because it's going to be a lot more interesting now that you have more experiences. This is an easy game to play because you don't have to buy any supplies or extra accessories. If you want to be truly prepared, you might want to come up with a list of questions beforehand. You can also find offshoots of this game designed specifically for bachelor parties at any general party shop.

The Wishlist - this is a great activity that serves as a warm-up for events to come. It basically involves every member of the party coming up with a list of certain celebrities that they would like to “spend time with”. Whether it's going on a date, a trip to the library, or something much more romantic, it's fun to learn about the secret crushes of all your friends. If you want to make it just a bit naughtier, you can extend the rules beyond celebrities into people in real life.

Drinking Games – you’ve probably already played a classic drinking game before. It's easy to organize and that goes with any type of activity. You can play it while watching television or listening to a particular song. You might also find that some of the best romantic movies make a great accompaniment for this game as well. Make sure to amp-up the fun level by having plenty of drinks on hand with enough variety so things don't get boring.

Karaoke Carousel - all you need to play this game is a good karaoke machine, and it's something that you can use long after the party is over. It basically involves loading up the machine with different songs and then singing whatever comes up. Most modern machines will come with this feature and it's a nice way to incorporate music and crazy times into the night. You can even purchase a horrible model that allows you to take this game anywhere you happen to go.

Crazy Bridal Dress - this is perhaps the most traditional game on the list, and it's definitely a must-have. It basically involves dressing up the bride-to-be in a crazy costume design by other members of the party. You can join her by dressing up yourself while turning into a contest or fashion show. Of course the game isn't complete until you go out into the city to show off among the general public.

Extras and Toys - these are just a few simple selections and there are plenty more available. There are some websites that specialize in bachelorette party supplies and toys and you can usually get a good deal on shipping if you buy everything all at once. It's actually quite fun to take a look at some of these games because they can be quite raunchy. Just make sure that you keep the bride in mind and you don't purchase anything that will make her feel uncomfortable.

Top Board Games for Family Fun

Board games are a dying pursuit these days.  Family evenings spent around the dining room table have been replaced by movie nights, and time spent playing computer games, or hanging out on Facebook and Twitter.

That's not to say that board games don't have a place, though.  Many families are adopting tech free evenings where they "unplug" for one night per week, spending time playing with toys for children, chatting, and de-stressing.

Then there are holidays - when you're out camping, caravanning, or even stuck in a hotel room in Rome waiting for the rain to go away, a board game can help to pass the time.  Here's a few ideas for family friendly fun:

  1. Scrabble - this is an old game, but one that never loses its charm.  As long as you lay down the rules about which dictionary you'll be working from before you start playing, this game is less likely to cause fights than, say, Monopoly, and it's educational fun.
  2. The Logo Board Game - how well can you recognize the logos of restaurants, cars, football teams, and other popular brands?  This game is best played with slightly older children, as younger kids may not be as brand aware - at least not when it comes to things like car manufacturers.
  3. Civilization: The Board Game - if you enjoy the computer game, why not replicate it away from the keyboard?  This one has a hefty rule book, but is engrossing, fun, and educational in its own way too!
  4. Twister - you've had a lot of practice leaping over toys for children, dodging pets running under foot, and stretching behind the sofa while tidying up.  How fit and flexible have you become?
  5. Articulate - are you a fast talker?  How clearly can you express yourself?  You'll find out if you play this game.  Many of the challenges are harder than they seem at first glance!  One good thing about this game is that it's a smaller box than many of the others, so you can keep it in the car for emergency entertainment.
  6. Go - this game is easy to learn, but genuinely difficult to master.  All you need is a board and some black and white markers.
  7. Chess - if you have a small chess board with you, you'll never get bored.  Chess is suitable for all age groups, and the critical thinking skills it teaches will last a lifetime.

One problem with board games is that once you've played them a few times, the appeal can start to fade.  However, there's a lot you can do with some board game basics. Instead of spending a fortune on new toys for your children, why not encourage them to get creative and come up with new games based on dice, playing cards, and markers.  That way, your kids will have the fun experience of working together to come up with new rules for a game, and you'll get the fun of playing it later. Who knows, it could be their first step into a design career!

This article was written by James Harper for The Original Factory Shop, who offer low-cost toys for children and other discounted goods.

James is a dedicated family man that feels turning back the clock and playing a board game is among the best ways to enjoy time with his family.

Backgammon in the 21st Century

Backgammon through the changing times

Backgammon is one of the oldest board games that ever existed. It is found to date back to 3,000 B.C. There are some that argue, however, that the original concept of backgammon was established in the ancient civilizations of Egypt and Mesopotamia as early as 5,000 B.C. Like many board games, backgammon is fun to play and sends a competitive thrill to its players. The excitement it brings allowed the game to grow so popular and withstand the test of time.

Naturally, everything that is passed down from generation to generation evolves in one way or another. Backgammon is no exception to the rule. As the centuries passed, different versions of the game have emerged. The rules of backgammon may have been altered numerous times over the years, but the same old thrill it gives its players still remains.

Today, backgammon is keeping up with the times. In the advent of technology, with the Internet as, perhaps, its most incredible tool, online gaming has become one of the favorite pastimes of people of varying ages. Although it was reported to have taken the backseat some few years ago due to the lack of advertising placements, backgammon found its way back to the driver's seat as it rakes up hits for various online gaming websites.

There are dozens and dozens of websites that offer gamers around the world to play online backgammon for free. These websites have cutting-edge intricate visual effects that make the different backgammon boards, dice and pieces look like the way they do in real life. They even allow the players to chat with one another for the duration of the game to keep things more interesting. Most, if not all, of these online gaming sites are widely accessible by anyone who wish to play. Be it a novice or an experienced player, all is welcome. Free basic backgammon rules tutorials are even offered by select online gaming websites.

As with poker players, experienced backgammon players find the game more interesting when there is tangible proof of their winnings. Thankfully, there are online gaming sites that allow users to play backgammon for money. Strict verification is conducted by these websites before the beginning of each game to ensure that the profiles and credit card information of each player are valid. Underage gambling is in no way condoned nor tolerated by online backgammon sites. Proper age authentication is also conducted.

Whether it is played for money or just plain fun, backgammon is more than just another form of interactive entertainment. Like Sudoku, chess and such, backgammon a strategy game that boosts one's intelligence quotient (IQ) and brain power. It is no wonder why the game is still around today.

Enter Game Night

Are you old enough to remember the days before video games? When a rainy day weekend meant one of the best things to do was spend the afternoon playing board games with your friends?

OK, so you’re probably not. In which case you can bill your next game night get together as a super retro evening of fun from the annals of American history. If your friends don’t go for that, just promise them beer and cocktails, plus free food. They’ll be there.

There are so many games on the market that it came be hard to choose the best one (or several) for a truly great game night. We have a few dos and don’ts that can make things easy for you.

Do: Consider your attendees. Are your friends math and science nerds who spend their days in a lab or wordsmiths who write all day for a living? Perhaps you have a mix of both. Does the group know each other well or are they meeting and greeting for the first time? These details will be useful in your game selection.

Don’t: Even think about a game that can take hours to finish. Like Monopoly. Sometimes even Pictionary can be a several hour marathon, although there are ways you can change the rules a bit to make it go faster.

Do: Pick a game with easy rules that everyone can learn easily. In other words, not Backgammon. We’ve been faking our way through that one for years. And make sure you can have multiple players. Are there teams involved in the game? If so be sure you invite an even number of people so the teams can be evenly split.

Don’t: Do any betting or have a prize for the outcome. This just brings out the scary, uber-competitive side in people that you probably don’t want to see.

Our top game picks:
Catchphrase. This is a very fun charades like speed-guessing game controlled by a beeping console passed around the group of players. The person with the console in hand must get their team members to guess the word displayed on the device, without saying the word. Hilarity ensues.
Scrabble. An oldie but a goodie. Suitable for multiple players and the more people playing, the faster the game goes. If your friends play Words with Friends on their phones, this is surely an astute choice.
Candyland. Adopt and modernize the board so that you have personal challenges associated with some of the pitfalls in the game. Land in the chocolate swamp, get charged with serving dessert at your next game night. That sort of thing.

Got any great games that you enjoy with your friends? Which ones are your favorites?

My Thoughts~!!

Syncrohearts was an awesome game~!!  My husband and I shared a few great moments are we bared our souls to each other.  My husband and I do not seem to have any troubles communicating, but we enjoyed some of the topics of conversation.

It didn't take us very long to play, just over an hour and so we were able to play again.  We thought the rules were easy to understand and follow and had no interruptions in our game due to any mis-communication.

The board game is very nicely displayed and is the standard board game size.  There are hearts that overlay each other and the track follows around the hearts.  You roll the die and count out your squares and follow the directions pertaining to the card that corresponds with the square.

The cards were durable as is the game board but we weren't that impressed with the game pieces.  We felt that the girl/guy symbols in pink/blue would have made a better player pieces, and maybe if they were just a little bit bigger.  My husband's large hand had troubles picking the piece up at times.

We felt the suggestions were not x-rated nor crass and everything is done with love in mind and not sex.  This is a game of intimacy and sharing of yourselves in hopes of learning a little bit more.  It will have you kiss or massage your partner and well, if some things lead to other places, then so be it, but for the most part, Syncrohearts is a game for two people who are looking to strengthen and deepen their love.

This would make an excellent Christmas gift for your loved one, your relationship is worth it~!!

Now, we here at The Marsh and Dr. Love wish to give one of my lovey dovey readers a chance to win your OWN game of SyncroHearts to play with your intended or gift it to someone who you feel could use it~!!
