BOOK REVEIW: A Soul Less Broken by Helen Laibach

A Soul Less Broken

Author:  Helen Laibach
Paperback:  178 pages
Publisher:  Wheatmark (September 15, 2010)
Language:  English

After being brutally attacked, Catherine Wilcox must discover her own inner strength and courage as she struggles to piece her life back together.

She finds herself falling in love with the emergency room physician who treats her, but soon realizes the attack has left her so emotionally scarred that she must turn away the only man who truly loves her.  And at a time when she feels her life if finally beginning to heal, Catherine must face the devastation of learning that her dearest friend has terminal cancer.

In A Soul Less Broken we follow Catherine as she discovers the depth of true friendship, the healing power of love, and the stamina of the human spirit.

Catherine Wilcox is an up and coming new law student with dreams of making her mark when she is brutally attacked and raped one night after leaving the library.  After being left for dead, she wakes up in the Emergency room where Alan Petersen is her attending physician.  Alan believes that Catherine is his soul mate and is determined to do all he can to help her through this horrible ordeal.

I liked the characters though I am not sure if I would appreciate the good doctors attention after being viciously attacked.  I am thinking my radars would be screaming and I would demand a female doctor.  I liked Alan's character, don't get me wrong, he was sweet and attentive, I am just thinking with the plot's premise, he came on just a little too strong.

I would have appreciated seeing more of the love growing between the two main characters and leave out the aspect of the cancer, I found that there were too many emotional issues to deal with and it kind of detracted away from the story, instead of enhancing it.  There was enough power and depth in first antagonistic event that cancer could've been better left for another time and another book.  I would've liked to have seen more emphasis given to the attack and how she grows as a victim into a survivor.

I would give A Soul Less Broken a three out of five stars.  And yes, even though I complained about the cancer being added to the book, there are a few pages near the book's end that will leave your tearing up.  There is some emotional depth in the author's writing style, but I feel more focus would've been given the characters more breadth and allowed me to attach myself to them in a better capacity.

Can Numerology Work For You?

Numerology is the study of the symbolism of numbers. It is a type of applied mysticism, which connects a mystical symbol with the ability to give insight into a person’s character. Numerology can be traced back 10,000 years, to Egypt and Babylonia, but it is Greek mathematician Pythagoras, who is accredited with developing numerology and laying the foundations for numerology. In more recent years, numerologist L. Dow Balliet incorporated Pythagorean principles with the concepts of numerology that we use today.

Your Personality?
Numerologists claim that numerology can give insight into what kind of personality you have, your strengths and weaknesses, and what your talents are. Numerology also claims to be able to tell you what kinds of stresses currently exist in your life, and in the lives of those around you. Numerologists state that numerology can help employers see if someone can fulfil their job requirements, or can help someone who is having difficulty in a relationship to work out what is going wrong. Numerologists also believe numbers can be used to advise on when is the best time to marry, change jobs, or any other life changing decisions.

How It Works
Numerology works on the principle that everything in the universe has a specific vibration. According to Balliet, people, objects, food and colours all vibrate. Numbers also have their own vibration rate, according to numerologists, and by finding out the vibration rate of an object, you can find out the qualities associated with it. In numerology, all numbers are reduced to single digits 1-9. Numerologists work out what a person’s number is, and then that person can live their life by making choices that are compatible with their number, by making choices that have the same vibration as them.

How to Work out Your Number
Numerologists commonly use a person’s name or birth date to determine their number. It might seem strange to have your personality governed by your name, which is chosen by your parents, but numerologists argue that unborn babies actually choose their names themselves and communicate their name choice to their parents through psychic links, thus making sure they have a name with the correct number to match their personality. Different numerologists use different ways to work out a person’s number, but one often used is based on the position of each letter in the alphabet:
A=1
B=2
C=3 etc.
A numerologist picks the numbers that match the letters, adding the numbers together when a digit is over 9. For example, the number of the letter K would be 2, as its number 11 in the alphabet, so we add 1 and 1 together to get 2. Joe Bloggs’s number would be 165 236111. The total for Joe is 12, and Bloggs is 14. Adding these two numbers together gets us 26. 2 plus 6 is 8, which gives us Joe Blogg’s number.

What Your Number Means
Different numerologists apply different concepts to different numbers, but here are some common numerical concepts:
1: willpower, ambition, leadership, success
2: emotional, harmonious, peacemaker, un-confrontational
3: imagination, happiness, creativity
4: practicality, instinctive, endurance
5: outgoing, curious, committed
6: honesty, faithful, domestic, optimist
7: cleverness, introvert, mysterious
8: natural leadership, wealth, authoritative, contrite
9: possessiveness, spirituality, empathy

A numerologist makes recommendations about a person’s future based on their number. Topics numerologists often cover are lucky numbers (might be a good time to buy a lottery ticket), career paths, qualities to look for in a partner, negative personality traits to avoid, and positive ones to emphasise. By giving you insight into your own personality, numerology can help equip you to make more informed decisions, and manage your relationships with others.

Many people use the services of numerologists to give them guidance in their life, and credit numerology with helping them make personal and business decisions. There has however, been little scientific research into numerology, and there's no proof that the there is any real correlation between numbers and the qualities they are each associated with. For this reason, you might want to keep an open mind if you employ a numerologist. However, even if you’re not sure if you believe in it, talking to someone about your problems will help you work through them, and the guidance they give can help you get your life in order and feel more positive.

BOOK REVIEW: A Most Unsuitable Match by Stephanie Grace Whitson

A Most Unsuitable Match

Author:  Stephanie Grace Whitson
Paperback:  336 pages
Publisher:  Bethany House Publishers (August 1, 2011)
Language:  English

An unlikely attraction occurs between two passengers on a steamboat journey up the Missouri River to Montana...

She is a self~centered young woman from a privileged family who fears the outdoors and avoids anything rustic.

He is a preacher living under a sense of duty and obligation to love the unlovable people in the world.

She isn't letting anything deter her from solving a family mystery that surfaced after her mother's death.

He is on a mission to reach the rejects of society in the remote wilderness regions of Montana.

Miss Fannie Rousseau and Reverend Samuel Beck are the opposites in every way...except in how they both keep wondering if their paths will ever cross again.

I found this to be a very enjoyable romance novel and I am not usually all that fussy about them.  I liked the characters within the pages and found Fannie to be a charming young lady.  The books description is totally wrong for the person found within the pages, I wouldn't say she was self~centered at all, sheltered yes and I never seen where she was afraid of the outdoors nor anything rustic, to me, it seems she was always trying to break the male stigma's of women.

I found her to be a courageous and caring women who was thrust into maturity before she felt she was ready.  After her mother dies, Fannie is left with the care and upkeep of her family home and family name.  Her accountant wants her to find an eligible bachelor before her money runs out and she has nothing to bargain with, his choice in men leave Fannie feeling nauseous.

Fannie wants to meet her heart's echo, just like her best friend Minette has done.  After a few failed attempts at romance, Fannie comes to realize that she many never find a man that makes her heart sing.

Samuel does not start out as a Preacher, nor is his mission to help those in need.  He has set on his journey to find his run~away sister who he has learned has hooked up with an Army Major.  Along the way, he meets Fannie and after a terrible accident on a river boat, he becomes her guardian angel and protector.  After encouragement from his friend, Lamar, it is then that Sam begins to preach the word of God and his future seems to be set before him.

Many trials and tribulations happen along their journey and you will enjoy the relaxing flow that author, Stephanie Grace Whitson, writes and intrigues her readers with.  It's a delightful tale of coming of age, finding yourself and falling in love.  I would give A Most Unsuitable Match a four out of five stars.

The Bible Bee Family Discipline Challenge

At times, it can feel overwhelming and intimidating to think about providing Biblical learning at home.  We often think we are unqualified, too busy, or that our kids won't listen.  But, we miss the greatest gift as parents if we don't disciple our kids.  Deuteronomy 6:7 is clear about our responsibility to teach our children God's Truth, "You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise."
The Bible Bee Family Discipleship Challenge provides a way to get resources and encouragement as you study with your children.  The Challenge is created by The National Bible Bee and it's ministry partners.

Step 1:  Register your family for The National Bible Bee.  You'll receive a box on June 1st filled with everything you need to complete the challenge.  The National Bible Bee begins June 1st as contestants learn to inductively study a designated book of the Bible through the Bible Bee’s exclusive “Sword Studies” and memorize Scripture with the help of their Bible Memory cards.
Step 2:  Complete the 12-weeks of study and participate in a local Bible Bee Celebration Day near you on August 25th.
Step 3 (Optional):  If possible, report how your family is enjoying studying the Word together during the summer.  It can be a quick post on The Bible Bee Facebook page, a tweet, or a post on your blog (email us a link to your post).  Just make sure you use the hashtag #BibleBee--that way we can be inspired by each other's progress through the summer.

Algonquin Spiritual Dieties

This is a collection of the dieties in which my people have made a part of their spirit...it is from this in which I am today...and yes, I do realize there are many more...

Nanabozho (nah~nah~boh~zhoh) or Wisekedjak (wee~sah~kay~jock) ~ (There are several different ways that this name is shared and varies by tribe)  This is the benevolent hero of the Anishinable tribes and often depicted as a rabbit.  He was sent to name all things and taught fishing to the people.  He is also known as a shape~shifter and is co~creator of the world.

Michabo (mih~shah~bose) ~ Another referral to the diety Nanabozho...the French corrupted the word in their translation.

Kichi Manido (kih~chee muh~nih~doh) ~ "Great Spirit" ~ a divine spirit with no human form or attributes (including gender) and is never personified in Algonquin mythology.

Nokomis (noh~koh~miss) ~ Nanabozho's wise old grandmother.

Kichi~Odjig ~ "Great Fisher" ~ An animal spirit hero who slew monsters, set the seaons in motion and is represented as the "Big Dipper".

Widjigo (wee~jih~goh) ~ An evil man~eating spirit who play the role of "monsters" and "boogeymen" in some myths while in others it is said that people who commit sins (especially those relating to selfishness, gluttony and/or cannabilism) are turned into a Widjigo as punishment.

Pagwadjinini (pug~wuh~jih~nih~nee) ~ Little people of the forests.  Their name means "wild man" and though they are mischievious, they are generally harmless and good~natured.

Memegwesi (may~may~gway~see) ~ Small water spirits, said to inhabit waterfalls or riverbanks.  They are generally benign creatures however, if you fail to show them proper respect, they will tamper with your canoe by drifting them astray or they will steal things.

Mishiginebig (mih~shih~gih~nay~big) ~ "Great Serpent" ~ An underwater horned serpent which has been said to lurk in lakes and eat humans.

Mishibijiw (mih~shih~bih~zhew) ~ "Water Panther" ~ A powerful creature cross between a cougar and a dragon that lives deep in the water and causes men and women to drown.

Onimiki (o~nih~mih~kee) or Pinesi (pih~nay~see) ~ "Thunderbird" ~ A giant bird in which thunder is caused by the beating of its giant wings.  Very powerful beings that rarely bother humans and are treated with great reverence.

Bi~bon (pih~boon) ~ Spirit of the North wind who brings winter to the land.

Learn How to Open Your Third Eye with Chakra Meditation Techniques

Chakra meditation techniques are form of meditation which makes use of chakras. These techniques borrow many concepts of yoga like kundalini.  There are seven chakras in the kundalini system. Kundalini is the energy field that travels through the path consisting of seven chakras in the body system. Third eye which is thought to be located at the center of our forehead is sixth chakra of the seven chakras and is therefore second last path of kundalini.

Third eye unlike real eyes is virtual eye. Scientifically it is thought to be connected to the pineal gland in the middle of brain. It is also called as ‘Agya’ chakra. Through third eye meditation, you tend to stimulate and feel virtual presence of third eye. This type of meditation is also called ‘Trataka’. It is the technique which allows one to move on more spiritual plane.

Third eye meditation is guided meditation and requires learning. This technique teaches us to open our third eye by moving into the meditative state. A brief description of technique is given below.
  • Sit with your legs crossed and spine straight.
  • Close your eyes.
  • Breathe in and out slowly for 2-3 times.
  • Try to concentrate on to the forehead area by looking upwards with eyes closed and then try to look at the center of the forehead.
  • Bring all your attention to the center of forehead and then try to relax your eyes. After concentrating for some time, your thoughts become still. You are able to see inner you.
  • You experience spiritual and virtual presence of third eye which appears to be open and is watching inner side of yourself. This is the point where you have entered the meditative state. It enables you to focus on positive things that make you feel good.
  • Continue observing for 15-20 minutes.
  • Then slowly with your eyes closed stop looking at the third eye. After few minutes of waiting open both eyes completing your meditation.
The experience of third eye meditation is difficult to explain. Opening of third eye to observe inner state of us is a spiritual experience. Everyone feels it differently. It is not easy to describe in words. This is good exercise of our eyes. Our eyes work constantly when open and hence are very strained. This meditation helps to keep them healthy. These meditation techniques help to develop our intuitive power and psychic abilities.

There is some caution one needs to know when learning trataka technique. While you are practicing third eye meditation, you might feel heat at the third eye location. This is believed to happen because of energy field travelling through chakras. This heat, though not harmful may make you feel uncomfortable to meditate. It can also cause some itching at forehead. It is advised to stop meditation in such a case.

Of all the meditation techniques, this is one that is difficult to practice. We must concentrate only on silencing the thought process and enjoy spiritually. This will allow us to see the world beyond through our third eye.
