7 Great Ways to Boost Your Immune System Naturally

Becoming ill is simply unavoidable, there is no way anyone could pass through life without becoming ill at some point along the way. Unfortunately though some of us have drawn the short straw when it comes to illness and are more prone to becoming ill than others. This is the case because not all immune systems work in identical ways. Regardless of  this fact everybody is capable of boosting their own immune system naturally and here are the top 7 Ways.

Get a Little Sunshine!
An easy way to boost you immune system is to spend short periods in the sun without applying any sun cream. The reason behind this is that exposure to the sun provides your body with Vitamin D, which plays a major role in immune system functioning and is not contained in many foods.

Drink ImmunoPro
ImmunoPro is a natural protein powder, specifically designed for enhancing your immune system. It contains the finest native whey concentrate. This concentrate is called Proserum and is made from the milk of cows that have been 100% grass fed and that graze all year round on entirely natural pastures.

Vitamin D
Vitamin D is not as well known as many other vitamins however it is just as important. This is because it enhances the production of B-cells, which are the immune cells that produce the antibodies that destroy bacteria. You can get Vitamin D naturally by increasing your intake of seeds, grains and vegetable oils.

Embrace the Garlic
Throw aside the worry of smelly breath as Garlic is an excellent way of boosting your immune system naturally. Eating Garlic results in an increase of infection-fighting white cells which will help your body to fight illness much more quickly.

Don't Be Shy of Fatty Acids
People hear or see the word fat and instantly jump to the conclusion that it must be bad for them. This is not the case when it comes to omega-3 fatty acids which are a brilliant way to strengthen your immune system, They work by increasing the activity of cells known as phagocytes which engulf bacteria that could make you ill.

Vitamin C
This is probably the most well-known immune enhancing vitamin there is as there has been more research carried out on its role as an immune enhancer than any other vitamin. You can ensure that you have enough Vitamin C each day by eating a diet high in fruits and vegetables such as oranges, strawberries, broccoli and bell peppers.

Ditch the Sugar
Sugar has devastating effects on your immune system, so it is best if you reduce your intake in order to enhance your immune system. The reason sugar is bad for your immune system is that it causes the increase in hormones that suppress your immune system. Instead you should consumes fruits and vegetables that will supply you with the vital vitamins and minerals that will enhance your immune system.

How To Get Rid of Baggy Eyes

Baggy eyes are among the things people wished they never had. In the same way with pimples, black heads, etc., it causes our face to become unsightly. However, it is difficult to avoid having these since a lot of factors that causes baggy eyes are present in different lifestyles.

Genetics, age, stress, lack of sleep, consuming salty foods, gravity, and even bending the head down for too long, can all play a role in having baggy eyes. Some severe cases may require surgery for its complete removal. However, there are more practical remedies that can reduce these horrid circles underneath the eyes. It may take some time and patience in doing these procedures on a regular basis but it will certainly be much better than going under the knife and shedding out a huge amount of money for the surgery.

Here are helpful suggestions on getting rid of baggy eyes:
  • Cold comfort – Coldness can relax the circles around the eyes which can subsequently, reduce the puffiness and the circles. Slices of cucumber, potatoes, cold teabags, and even spoons can relieve swelling of the eyes.
  • Stay away from salt – Baggy eyes are also result of consuming too much salt. Excess salt will make our body retain more fluid which can also happen under the eyes.
  • Stay away from alcohol – In the same reason with staying away from salt, alcohol also induces water retention.
  • Drink plenty of fluids – Now this should cause you some confusion. You were just told to stay away from salt and alcohol to prevent fluid retention and in this tip, you are advised to drink plenty of fluids. This is to wash out the excess salt and alcohol in the body. Too much of these substances will make your body retain fluid so the best way to prevent fluid retention is to have water in excess of salt in the body.
  • Brush egg whites under the eyes – Egg whites, if applied on skin, have the ability to make it tighter and less saggy – these are important traits of the skin under the eyes to prevent it from getting puffy.
  • Use a special moisturizer or cooling gel for the skin under the eyes – Regular facial moisturizers should not be used for the skin under the eyes since this is more sensitive than the rest of the face. Use a special moisturizer or cooling gel which has a more soothing effect that relaxes the eyes, thus, reducing puffiness.
  • Get plenty of sleep – We all know how drastic lack of sleep is for our eyes. Just by having insufficient hours of sleep in one night, the circles around our eyes can already get puffy and dark the following day. To avoid making this happen, it is important to have enough sleep always. It will be good for one’s overall health too.
Final Words

By doing these steps, puffiness around the eyes should start to become unnoticeable. However, if the circles around the eyes persist or if they are already severe, it might be ideal to consult a physician in case these are already symptoms of some disease such thyroid or kidney problems.

Ten Amazing Benefits of Yoga

There is no one who can't benefit from yoga. What follows are ten benefits of practicing yoga and why you should give it a try!

1. Within the body, someone who regularly practices yoga will find it leads to a reduction in blood pressure. In people who have been diagnosed with hypertension, daily yoga has been shown to reduce, and in some cases eliminate, the need for medication.

2. The practice of yoga can amp up the speed of metabolism. With continual practice, hunger cues are reset and you can ward off the feeling of being ravenous. With hunger well-controlled, weight loss becomes more efficient, while the fact that your muscles are working on a daily basis contributes to their ability to burn fat and calories faster.

3. Yoga is an excellent form of stress management. Through breathing techniques and muscle control, total relaxation can be achieved by routine practice. The movements of yoga enable you to loosen your body and that, in turn, allows stress to exit the mind.

4. The development of core muscle strength is a benefit of yoga. The many poses enable the practitioner to become familiar with muscle groups in the body, while gaining better control over them. When you are aware of how your body works, you gain strength.

5. One benefit that doesn't get much attention is the power of yoga to diffuse anger. Yoga by its very nature encourages calmness. When you are in the midst of the controlled breathing of yoga, you realize these techniques work well, both in and out of a yoga class, to exhale anger out of your body. Staying calm is the antithesis of holding anger.

6. Practicing yoga regularly is a blessing for sufferers of chronic pain. Because yoga is a series of slow and purposeful movements, the low-impact nature of the practice makes it ideal for those with pain. Spinal compression is reduced and tensions ease. Some practitioners of yoga have reported the reduced need for pain medications due to the effect of yoga on their pain levels.

7. Those afflicted with obsessive compulsive disorder who have taken up the practice of yoga have reported a decreased need for medication to handle their symptoms. Some have even said they were able to stop taking medication completely.

8. Yoga gives a huge boost to your hand and eye coordination, dexterity and reaction time. All of those need regular use to stay most beneficial to you. Yoga gently exercises them so they are ready when you need them in everyday situations.

9. Attention, memory and concentration are all areas that are improved by practicing yoga. As little as 8 weeks of performing yoga can cause a marked increase in these skills.

10. There is promising evidence that suggests the practice of yoga can elevate the level of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) in the brain. Low GABA levels are found in patients with Alzheimer's. Meditation, such as with yoga, has shown promise in slowing Alzheimer's progress.

There are truly limitless benefits when someone takes up yoga. From mind and spirit, to body and brain, yoga benefits every part of the human body.

Massage and Its Benefits

Massage Therapy
One thing that we're really discovering in this modern age is that the ancient practice of massage therapy is rich with health benefits. When you're stressed, out of energy, fatigued, or just feeling down, nothing can bring you back to life better than a deep tissue massage session. Now, that sounds like a claim anybody can make, but there are actually plenty of scientifically documented health benefits to massage therapy that work on the physical, mental, and spiritual levels.

Getting massage
Whether you're trying to recover from a sports injury or just getting stressed out at work, you should look into visiting a massage clinic in your local area.Okay, so what are these “well documented” health benefits of getting a massage? There are really too many to name them all, but here are a few of the most commonly sought after benefits.

Improves Circulation
When your blood is not circulating at maximum efficiency, it has an extremely detrimental effect on your organs, mental capacity, and energy levels. Our blood is what carries oxygen to every single part of our body. Without oxygen, none of us could survive of course, but none of our tissue can survive either. When any one part of the body is cut off from blood flow for long enough, it just dies. Improving circulation allows more oxygen to reach your brain and extremities, which allows the related tissue to function at a higher level. There's even research looking into the fact that people with higher concentrations of oxygen in their blood are more resistant to cancer. Massage can boost your circulation after just one session.

Reduces Stress
Stress by itself may not seem so bad. It's more of an annoyance than anything else. But did you know that stress can actually contribute to the formation of various diseases and medical conditions? High blood pressure, one of the top causes for death and hospital visitation in the country, is proven to be more prevalent in people with high stress lifestyles. Simply put, stress can kill you if it's not managed correctly. The atmosphere and relaxing nature of a massage therapy session can significantly reduce your stress levels, which will ultimately lead to a happier, healthier, and more fulfilled lifestyle. The next time you feel a tension headache coming on, just give your local spa a call and schedule an immediate appointment for a massage.

Relieves Pain
There's a reason professional sports teams hire massage therapists for all of their players. When you're injured or in pain, sometimes there is no better remedy than a deep tissue massage, which promotes blood flow to specific parts of the body and releases tension on nerves, which are what cause the pain the first place. Massage can also speed up recovery after an injury,. So whether you're a pro athlete or just a weekend warrior, you can always benefit from a relaxing, healing massage. These are just a few of the reasons massages are beneficial.

The Different Types of Yoga

Do you lead a stress lifestyle or are you overweight and lack spiritual meaning in your life? Perhaps you have heard people talk about the wonders that Yoga has to offer, especially celebrities who say it is the only thing that works for them. Yoga is not just a form of exercise; it is also about bringing the body together; in terms of your emotional, physical, mental and spiritual being.  After reading this perhaps you will have better understandings of yoga is all about, but most importantly you can identify which yoga class works for you.

Yoga Systems
Yoga has various systems that have different characteristics and personalities; it has been designed this way on purpose, people all have their own unique personality and they will identify with a specific type of yoga. For example someone may be looking for physical training, while someone else may be looking for spiritual healing. Overall, there is no right or wrong system to choose from. Some of the systems range from five hundred to thousands of year’s old, modern yoga has been careful to adapt these traditions.

  • Bhakti Yoga
This type of yoga has a spiritual focus where the yoga trainer will guide you to develop a state of devotion within your mind and heart. This yoga is not recommended for beginners, as a strong sense of faith is important. Members will be taught how to submit themselves to God and forget their old ways of egotism and self reliance. Meditation and mantra repetition are the main focus of the class.

  • Karma Yoga
This yoga focuses on thoughts, actions and feelings that occur on a day to day basis in our lives. This system believes that what we did in our past will force us to take another life to fix what we did. You eventually build up Karmic merit which either balances the cycle or completely destroys anything bad you did in the past. The practice of this yoga revolves around the things you do in the world, which can add up to your spiritual progress. In a Karma class, you will practice breathing exercises, meditations and learn about serving.

  • Kundalini Yoga
This form of yoga originates from Tantra yoga. This system focuses on controlling your energy within your body. This yoga needs to be done extremely carefully and be led by someone who has had years of experience, as it can have negative psychological effects if used incorrectly. Therefore, this system is also not recommended for beginners.

  • Hatha Yoga
The meaning of Hatha is broken down to mean sun and moon. Hatha focuses on purification for your entire body, mind and soul. During a Hatha class you will learn proper yoga postures for beginners. You can also build your way to learn more complicated things like body cleansing, energy channelling and self-realisation.

Nicole de Freitas has realised the benefits of yoga from her weekly yoga cape town classes, she now enjoys encouraging others to follow.

7 of the Healthiest Places to Live

Have you ever wondered which countries have the healthiest people? Those that live in the healthiest countries are those that live beyond their 90s, and even break the 100 year mark. This is something that most of us would like to accomplish. Sometimes, it isn't because the people take care of themselves, it has to do with more of how the culture they life in is like. If you aren't feeling happy about where you live, or you want to live longer, take a look at the 7 countries that have the healthiest people.

1. Iceland. Because not a lot of people live there―think of the name, it has the least amount of people. This is also the reason why there is not a lot of pollution in Iceland. Another reason that Icelanders are healthier is because they like to go to the gym. Because it is always so cold, many Icelanders hit the gym to beat the winter blues.

2. Japan. People that live here live the longest, with an average Japanese person living for 74.5 years. This is probably because of the food that the Japanese eat. Every meal that they eat is like a piece of art. They don't eat a lot of fried or processed foods, which helps them stay healthy.

3. Sweden. Because the government promotes a healthy way of life―including balancing lots of exercise with outdoors activities―these Swedes live for a long time. Because of where they live, Swedes eat a lot of fish, which is very healthy.

4. Okinawa. This place is believed to have the most healthy people on Earth. This area has about 50 centenarians per 100,000 people. That is a lot of people. This may because Okinawans eat a lot of fruits and vegetables.

5. New Zealand. This place is very similar to Iceland. There are not a lot of people that live there, and there is not a lot of pollution. It is also very close to the ocean. It doesn't matter where you life, the furthest that you have to go to see the ocean is about 90 minutes.

6. Sardinia. This is a region near Italy that has a lot of centenarians. People are very close in their communities. The men are usually shepherds, which results in them having to walk a lot.

7. Finland. Smoking has been reduced severely in this country. They don't eat meat very often, and eat a lot of fish.

The Season To Worry? How 3 (Wise) Herbs Can Help You

Christmas is over. Thank goodness some may sigh.

It is said that the festive season counts as one of the more stressful times of year for people. Going back to normality in January may not provide relief - we look forward to facing the bills incurred in the excesses of the previous month. And this is before we face the thrills of the New Year sales.

So for people prone to stress, January can be a challenging month. The gloomy British weather does not help our mood either - we could all do with a bit of sunshine to increase the happy chemicals in our brains and cheer us up.

So what can you do to sustain yourself until spring arrives? Well, many people prone to stress and worry find that there are 3 herbs that can help them get through these last months of winter.

The first is also one of the most commonly found herbs on our high streets. Valerian is a key ingredient in many herbal products licensed for stress relief. However, as it is usually combined with other herbs such as passiflora or hops, many people using stress relieving herbal products may not realise they are taking valerian.

Valerian based products are useful for those prone to stress, worry or people suffering from mild anxiety. This is a good example of ‘complementary’ medicine in action – if you went to your doctor complaining of stress or anxiety, the choice he or she will have to make is whether or not to prescribe conventional sedatives or tranquillers. As these have well-known side effects including dependency (remember the infamous valium?), doctors would not generally use this option unless symptoms were severe.

Enlightened GPs will advise their patients suffering from stress or anxiety to try an ‘over-the-counter’ valerian based product first, to see if herbal medicine can help. In most cases of mild anxiety or stress, it does – and without the same chance of side effects seen with prescribed medication.

The second useful herb for this time of year is St. John’s wort. It is sometimes also referred to as Hypericum and is well established in clinical research, being just as effective as standard anti-depressants for mild depression or low mood. As St. John’s wort does not have the same side effects as conventional anti-depressants, it is another great example of how herbs can be used to complement the offerings of orthodox medicine.

However, if you are thinking of using St. John’s wort, please take extra care if you are already on medicines prescribed by your doctor, including the pill. The reason is this - one of the pharmacological effects of St. John’s wort is that it makes the liver more efficient in the way it works, causing some prescribed medicines to be deactivated more quickly.

The list of medicines affected in this way can be found listed in the leaflet of licensed St. John’s wort products in UK – so look for licensed products in high street chains or better still, your local health food store. You can tell if a product is licensed as it will have a ‘THR number’ on the packaging. If you are not sure, ask the store for advice.

The third of our useful herbs for this time of the year is not an obvious one. Many people are familiar with Arnica used in homoeopathic (highly diluted) form for bruising. However, Arnica in the form of a gel has other uses – it has been shown in research to be a good anti-inflammatory and pain-killer. So why should Arnica be useful in those prone to stress and anxiety?

Apart from the psychological aspects, one of the most common consequences of stress is that it causes muscle tension. This may lead to a variety of muscular pains, especially tension in the upper body giving rise to a stiff neck and shoulders. The cold weather can make people more prone to these problems as can a busy desk job, an unforgiving boss and hours spent in front of a computer.

Arnica gel has been shown in research to be as effective a pain-killer as ibuprofen gel – not bad considering that it originates from a simple, yellow-coloured flower found growing in the wild, in the mountains of Central Europe.

Meditation Techniques Made Easy

meditation
People try out various things to get rid of stress and tension but have seldom succeeded. Through meditation it is possible to calm your mind and relax your body and soul as this is one of the most effective spiritual exercises. You have so many reasons for stress and anxiety in your everyday life and meditation is the best way to reduce them. There are many meditation techniques to practice so that your mind replaces the negative thoughts with positive ones. For stress and anxiety meditation is known to be one of the most powerful tools. The practitioners should focus on the activity while meditating to relax the mind.

Make sure when you are practicing meditation not to let anything distract your mind and you will feel relaxed. If you are focusing on the meditation carefully then your muscles get trained and this in turn will make your body free from stress. Meditation not only makes a person relaxed but also makes the mind strong. Many people have tried the guided meditation and have found it to be a practical blessing from God. Meditation has transformed the life of many and you can be one of them if you try it out. Your mind becomes calm because the ultimate peace that your mind is looking for is achieved through meditation.

When both body and mind calms down then the nervous system of our body starts functioning optimally and this can only be possible through meditation. A person who does meditation regularly will become so strong that he or she will automatically get the capability to solve the difficult problems in life. Bringing back the consciousness of a person is the main aim of meditation techniques. There are some basic steps that every individual should follow in meditation –

If you are trying to do the sitting meditation then it is important that you first choose a comfortable and right position. You can choose a sitting position may be with your legs crossed or you can sit on a chair. Whatever may be your sitting position, you must be relaxed with your back straight.
  • Keep your palms up by resting your hand on your lap. This will keep your body relaxed.
  • You must focus on a point and stare at a distance by relaxing your gaze and closing your eyes partially.
  • In order to direct your attention you need to choose the focal point. You need to focus on your breathing. Instead of the bad thoughts in your mind you can try to visualize good images and pictures or listen to soothing music.
  • Once you start meditating you start breathing by making your body relaxed.
  • Never try to push off the thoughts from your mind before you feel relaxed.

Through the meditation techniques you can be sure that your tensions and worries will melt away leaving you with a clear, calm and relaxed mind. Meditation today has become easier than before. It is not difficult finding the right technique that will offer great benefits.

Learn How to Open Your Third Eye with Chakra Meditation Techniques

Chakra meditation techniques are form of meditation which makes use of chakras. These techniques borrow many concepts of yoga like kundalini.  There are seven chakras in the kundalini system. Kundalini is the energy field that travels through the path consisting of seven chakras in the body system. Third eye which is thought to be located at the center of our forehead is sixth chakra of the seven chakras and is therefore second last path of kundalini.

Third eye unlike real eyes is virtual eye. Scientifically it is thought to be connected to the pineal gland in the middle of brain. It is also called as ‘Agya’ chakra. Through third eye meditation, you tend to stimulate and feel virtual presence of third eye. This type of meditation is also called ‘Trataka’. It is the technique which allows one to move on more spiritual plane.

Third eye meditation is guided meditation and requires learning. This technique teaches us to open our third eye by moving into the meditative state. A brief description of technique is given below.
  • Sit with your legs crossed and spine straight.
  • Close your eyes.
  • Breathe in and out slowly for 2-3 times.
  • Try to concentrate on to the forehead area by looking upwards with eyes closed and then try to look at the center of the forehead.
  • Bring all your attention to the center of forehead and then try to relax your eyes. After concentrating for some time, your thoughts become still. You are able to see inner you.
  • You experience spiritual and virtual presence of third eye which appears to be open and is watching inner side of yourself. This is the point where you have entered the meditative state. It enables you to focus on positive things that make you feel good.
  • Continue observing for 15-20 minutes.
  • Then slowly with your eyes closed stop looking at the third eye. After few minutes of waiting open both eyes completing your meditation.
The experience of third eye meditation is difficult to explain. Opening of third eye to observe inner state of us is a spiritual experience. Everyone feels it differently. It is not easy to describe in words. This is good exercise of our eyes. Our eyes work constantly when open and hence are very strained. This meditation helps to keep them healthy. These meditation techniques help to develop our intuitive power and psychic abilities.

There is some caution one needs to know when learning trataka technique. While you are practicing third eye meditation, you might feel heat at the third eye location. This is believed to happen because of energy field travelling through chakras. This heat, though not harmful may make you feel uncomfortable to meditate. It can also cause some itching at forehead. It is advised to stop meditation in such a case.

Of all the meditation techniques, this is one that is difficult to practice. We must concentrate only on silencing the thought process and enjoy spiritually. This will allow us to see the world beyond through our third eye.

Headaches: The Natural Relief

Headaches can sometimes prevent you from completing simple everyday tasks. While over the counter medications and prescription ailments bombard you in advertisements during trips to the pharmacy, you might be able to treat your pain in a more natural way with items you already have at home. Although you should always check with your doctor if you have regular or frequent headaches, below are a few easy ideas that may prove to be more helpful than the constant consumption of pain relief pills bought from a pharmacy.

Check Your Diet and Exercise Routine
Your headaches are often an indicator that your body is lacking various nutrients or is even crying out for regular exercise and activity. Magnesium is one of those nutrients that could possibly help reduce the instances of headaches that you experience. In addition, make sure to get into an exercise routine to keep your body healthy overall and reduce the stress and tension, which is often the cause of pain and headaches.

Massage and Compress
When you feel a headache coming on, you will often benefit from massage, which will relax your body and help soothe some of the tension that induces many headaches you experience. Massage your temples in a circular motion to reduce and alleviate pain. It will also benefit you to sit in a dark room and keep your home from becoming too cold. Warmer rooms, especially while you are sleeping, will keep your body looser and keep muscles from tightening to reduce tension and headaches. A cold or warm compress on the head area will also keep headaches at bay and keep you from tensing up as pain progresses. Place a compress on the nape of your neck or on your forehead to achieve the best results.

Try Natural Herbs
Herbs like peppermint are good for inducing a more relaxed state. Both peppermint and lavender have calming properties that can lend themselves well to reducing the stress and anxiety that sometimes cause headaches. You can use natural oils with the herbs in them to help calm you down with the massaging fore-mentioned. Rub peppermint oil into your temple with your eyes closed as you lie in a darkened room. Peppermint will energize you while lavender will create a soothing atmosphere. Both types of oil can be found at natural or health food stores. You can even drop some lavender oil into a warm bath to alleviate stress and relax after a long day.

Julie enjoys writing about health and fitness issues.  She is an expert on relieving headaches and spends her weekdays helping patients as a Houston migraine doctor. If you constantly have headaches due to stress, her tension headache treatment may be able to help.

The environment where you study should be tranquil and quiet.

To start, take a deck of tarot cards, a pen and a notebook. Select a spot in your residence that induces relaxation. If certain aromas or music helps you with concentration, burning incense, a scented candle or meditative music will do. Let go the world, and go within. After naturally feeling the urge to pick up the tarot card deck, begin shuffling the cards. While doing this, let your mind be free of any anxieties or challenges. Concentrate on slowing down your breathing to put you more in touch with your feelings. Anything that comes to the forefront of your mind, write it down in your journal. It’s important to acknowledge our feelings. Feelings are the pathway to the Soul. This is similar to the same ritual that psychics or mediums use for their impressions. If we fail in this very important phase, the ability to perform a tarot reading is diminished. Repressed emotions have a way of causing us to lose objectivity.

Following a few moments of relaxation, draw a card anywhere from the deck. Lay it down in front of you, and examine it. Write down the name of the card into your journal, and answer the subsequent questions:

-What life lesson does the card portray?
-What do the drawings and imagery represent to you?
-What type of vibrations do you get from the card?
-What is the theme of the card? What is it saying?
-What type of feelings does the card bring out in you?
-How does is the story significant to your own life?

Answering these kinds of questions, will assist you in getting in touch with each card’s meaning. In addition, during these exercises its fine to reference a quality tarot card book. When all is said and done, tarot card reading is a personal journey where you must be the driver and the vehicle as well.

My Thoughts~!!

My 14 y/o son has terrible acne and he has been frantic as to find a viable solution to his problem.  He has tried every holistic approach he could find, as well as a few over the counter acne treatments that have been "proven" to work and he has had no luck whatsoever.

When I first heard about Niapads I decided to check it out and have my son give his opinions on the product.  At first he was skeptical but more than willing to check it out.

When he first applied it to his skin, he remarked how he liked the smell.  We have a scent issue in our family and it is always one of my worries, however, it didn't affect his senses and after applying he sat back and waited and kept asking me if I noticed anything different.  I explained to him that we'd have to wait for a few uses in order to see any change.

My son remarked that he swears it was already beginning to work as he felt a slight tingling on his skin.  He liked the feeling saying that he could feel the Niapads working on his bacteria.  Now, while I didn't notice an overall lessening of the acne, I did notice that the red inflamed areas looked like there weren't so inflamed any longer.

My son said that by the next day, he already felt relief from the pressure from some of his more stubborn pimples and he has been using the product faithfully ever since~!!  After using the pads for over a week, I have noticed a considerable improvement and my son is now a Niapads fan and has been telling his friends at school about them.

Did you know that there is FREE shipping to anywhere in Canada and the US??   I thought that was one groovy deal, most people feel daunted by over priced shipping rates and tend to shy away from ordering online, I know its the one thing that stops me.  Being from Canada, I sometimes feel that companies take advantage of me by upping the shipping rates to astronomical proportions.  Free shipping is definitely a selling point for me~!!

If you have a loved one or if you suffer from acne problems, then these pads will help relieve the pressure and pain caused by them and before it works on clearing them up.  My 14 year old swears by them and with a nod of approval from a teenager suffering from acne, I'm going to have to take his word on it~!!  If he had one thing to say about the Niapads that was in the negative, it would be that the pads are too small for his fingers.  He has a wee bit of problems wiping them on his face and he wishes they were bigger.  He believes this are made for spot blemishes when the whole area around his nose and mouth is affected, making the cleaning a little difficult as he tries to maneuver the cloth around his acne.

All in all though, Niapads worked for my son...who knows, they may work for you too~!!

In Whitney's Own Words...

Surviving Katrina with a Buddha Statue

Two months before Hurricane Katrina, I met a Vietnamese-American doctor named Son Tran in a park near my house. We discovered that he and my husband would be colleagues in the same hospital, and that he and I were both Buddhists. We talked of meditation and didn’t know then that this chance meeting would have important consequences.

Two weeks before the storm, I had a nightmare. I dreamt I was trying to move my son Christoph and my elderly mother-in-law into a building, and after we settled inside, I realized I’d forgotten my medicine and had to go home to find it. I dreaded leaving my family and going back out onto the streets.
And then two days before the storm, when my husband was out of town and I was in a walking cast after ankle surgery, a friend called me and asked me what I was going to do for the storm. Storm? What storm? I thought Hurricane Katrina was going to Florida, and I hadn’t been watching the news. I quickly packed up financial papers and food and water and called my new friend Son Tran for help. He let Christoph, my mother-in-law, and me into my husband’s medical office downtown (my husband took his key with him). And then, when I discovered I’d forgotten my medicine (Yes, I really did! You try remembering everything before a storm), Son drove me back home. That was one of the worst hours of my life—being away from Christoph in such a crisis. At the house, I grabbed more flashlights, peanut butter and crackers, and bedding—all of which would become crucial in the next five days.

That first night, we slept on camping mats, tucked under desks. I meditated while Christoph fell asleep, and I felt an odd sense of calm. But Katrina hit the next day. And New Orleans flooded. And we were trapped, like so many others, in a building without electricity, air-conditioning, working toilets, or phones. My husband sat, miserable, in front of a TV in Vermont, agonizing over every CNN image of New Orleans.

Over the next few days, my mother-in-law chatted with the other families who sheltered with us. Son Tran took care of patients in the hospital and brought us news of a possible rescue. Christoph, frustrated and bored, skateboarded in the halls, and played Hangman with me on office paper. And I volunteered to serve cafeteria food until it ran out, and at night, I took off my ankle boot and meditated under a desk. I focused on a small wooden statue of Buddha that I’d brought home years ago from Burma.

This was August in New Orleans, and the closed-up building magnified the heat. We used wastebaskets as toilets, and the stink permeated the halls. And then we heard reports that criminals were trying to infiltrate the building with guns. We locked ourselves into our offices at night, and the only thing between panic and me was my Buddha statue. It reminded me to focus on the moment, not on my fear.

Boats were coming for us on Wednesday, but armed men overtook them (or so we were told), and our rescue was cancelled. We waited another twenty-four hours until helicopters could land on the roof of the hospital parking garage. At five-thirty in the morning, three days after the storm, hundreds of us lined up in the parking garage with nothing but the clothes we were wearing and a few small items that we could carry. My Buddha statue was in my pocket. Patients left first, and the rest of us stood in hundred-degree heat, wondering if we’d get out. Over the next fourteen hours, we inched our way to the roof. Security guards told us to stay away from the walls because people were shooting at the helicopters. My family, Son Tran, and I squeezed into the last helicopter out that night. The people behind us in line had to spend a terrifying night in the garage before flying out on Friday.

We landed at the New Orleans airport where we boarded buses to a hospital in Lafayette, Louisiana. There, at almost midnight, we showered and changed into hospital scrubs and flip-flops, and nurses injected us with penicillin. Although we were safe, I didn’t sleep much that night or any night for the next four months. My mind was stuck on the five tense days we spent trapped in a flooded New Orleans building, and on the uncertainty of our future. Son Tran went where the hospital sent him, and we flew to New England to be near my family. The first item I unpacked in our new temporary home, and the item I always have with me now when I travel, was my beautiful wooden Buddha that is a reminder of the impermanence of home and life.

No More Tears? Johnson & Johnson Hears a Cry

Johnson and Johnson lavender baby shampoo smells pure in my daughter's hair. The bottle says the scent will soothe her to sleep, plus the company's slogan is "No More Tears." Smells good? My baby won't cry? It'll help her sleep? That's a trifecta few mothers could resist. But my pediatrician told me that J&J, the company beloved for baby products, actually puts poison in its suds.

I wondered if she was just being hippie dippy, then I went online. What I found taught me an old lesson again: Trust your doctor. Activists have been pressuring the health care manufacturing giant since May 2009 to remove cancer-causing chemicals from its iconic baby shampoo.

The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, an international coalition of consumer and environmental groups, finally made -- pardon the pun -- headway. J&J has agreed to change the formula of its shampoo by removing the carcinogen 1,4-dioxane and quaternium-15, a compound that releases the chemical preservative formaldehyde.

All of this comes on the heels of more than 25 recalls from Johnson & Johnson over the past two years. Problems have ranged from glass shards in medicine to nauseating odors in product bottles and painful, defective hip implants.

J&J is wise to take proactive measures and publicize them, says Manhattan public relations executive Eleanor Lapman. "Here's a company whose name was once synonymous with precious safety -- baby products and band-aids are their bread and butter." Facing a PR disaster, the company now has a window of opportunity to be proactive, address the problems honestly, and receive some positive attention.

"They left themselves open to law suits with so many product recalls," says Daniel R. Rosen, a personal injury lawyer in Denver. "But this is a case of consumer activism done right. J&J received scores of letters from customers around the world, threatening to boycott its products. Now the company is taking measures to restore its once sterling reputation and keep consumers safe."

All of this has caused me to reevaluate my brand loyalty. When it comes to my baby, I don't cut corners. To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure that I'll continue to use Johnson & Johnson baby products. Am I willing to pay a little more for organic products if I believe they are safer for my child? Of course I am. I once trusted the J&J brand implicitly, but now I feel duped. Sure, they changed their formula to save their bottom line and their image, but I take little comfort in that. I'm glad they heard the cry of concerned activists, for whom I am increasingly grateful, but, for me, it's too late.
