As you gently stroke the thermometer across the forehead crossing over the temporal artery, the sensor in its probe performs two processes:

First it scans like a video camera, capturing naturally emitted infrared heat from the arterial blood supply at about 1000 “frames” per second, locking in the highest temperature it senses and;

Second, at the same time, a patented system measures the ambient temperature of the site where the temperature is being taken. The patented "arterial heat balance" (AHB) software then synthesizes the two separate readings to accurately determine and display body temperature.

My Thoughts~!!

I have to admit that this is one of the handiest gadgets ANY parent could own~!!  It is very, VERY easy to use~!!  All you have to do is depress the button, hold it down and slide it across the forehead to the hairline; depress the button and read the results.  You can also place this behind your ear if the forehead is sweaty or not easily accessible.

In mere seconds you have the temperature reading and there is no fighting with fussy children who don't like to have thermometers shoved into their orifices.  My kids loved having me take their temperatures, thankfully at the time they didn't actually need their temps. taken, but it was new and they were excited!

I am VERY thankful to have found this product and if there is ONE thing you keep in your medicine cabinet, then the Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer is THE one item you SHOULD have~!  No muss, no fuss and easy to use~!!

It operates on a nine volt battery, which is included, the back slides off and you just pop the battery inside; remove the applicator cover and your all set to use it on yourself, your spouse and/or your children.  Easy peasy~!!

It's not heavy, nor difficult to use and fits into your hand nicely.  It's so easy to use, even my youngest children understand the principles in its usage.  

Truthfully, the hardest part about using the device, is getting it out of its package.
