We have all heard about the DD—that person who is assigned the no-alcohol zone while the rest of the party has a blast at the club—and it almost has negative connotations in our society with someone always feeling left out. New York limos have raised the bar on what it means to be the designated driver today with unique and luxurious stretch limos or sporty limousines that give your party personality without leaving someone high and dry. The best way to drink responsibly is to allow someone else to do the driving, and that does not always mean choosing one of your buddies as the lucky person to stay sober for the evening.
Statistics show that the number of people killed as a result of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol are steadily dropping, not just in the New York area either, but also throughout the United States. This is not the result of more people choosing limo service, but rather the concentrated efforts of law enforcement, tougher penalties for convictions, and smarter decisions by the general public. However, being offered a bigger variety of alternatives is a big help too, such as being able to schedule limo pickup for the whole gang instead of designating a person to stay sober.
Not for Everyone
Obviously you cannot offer this amazing opportunity for every group, since you do still have to be a specific age to take part in a package that includes alcohol. Reputable companies comply with all local, state, and Federal laws so that they can be a better example for young people, so please do not be offended if your prom limo is stocked with Coca-Cola instead.
Currently, it is against the law to serve alcohol to anyone under the age of twenty-one, so any company (whether it is a bar, convenience store, restaurant, or limo service) that serves any type of alcohol to a person under the age can face jail time, monetary penalties, and loss of license to serve to anyone.
In order to reduce the risks of young people drinking alcohol, it is the parents’ responsibility to make sure that any event is chaperoned. Teachers are responsible to a degree, since the parent assigns care of the teenager to the teacher during that time, but parents should still have a good idea of what is going on by staying in contact as much as possible. Not necessarily during prom, but throughout the teenager’s day so that they can establish a relationship of trust so that they do not have to worry when he or she heads to an event where they may be hiding or serving alcohol.
We must all do our parts to reduce the number of drunk driving fatalities in our own locations, whether you live in a small town or the middle of New York. By working together, we can begin to eradicate this senseless loss of life with the cooperation of the police and lawmakers everywhere.
