See History, Art, Science and Much More in London's Famous Museums

London is known for its economic, cultural and historical influence. Its status as one of the world’s top repositories of human knowledge and achievement, however, may be what is most attractive about the city to visitors and tourists. Some of the most significant museums in the entire world are located in the city of London, and visitors would have to spend years in the city just to see everything in each of these institutions. Most people, however, do not have years to spend in London, and so the following must-see list of museums is offered to help visitors to London see the best of what the city has to offer.

The British Library
Measured by the total number of items in its collection, the British Library is the largest museum in the entire world. Its collection represents every country in the world and contains books, magazines, journals, sound recordings, patents, databases, maps and much more. It is a major world research library as well, and scholars from across the globe visit the British Library each year to do original research.

Imperial War Museum
There was once a time when the “sun never set on the British Empire,” and the Imperial War Museum commemorates the wars fought during the imperial period of British history. The museum has five locations in England. Three of them are in London, including the Churchill War Rooms, a museum that preserves the command centre of the British government during World War II. This museum also includes a biographical museum of its own dedicated to Sir Winston Churchill.
